It is so wonderful to see another Guitarist arrive on the scene who is just as terrifying to existing players (myself included) much like DiMeola, Holdsworth, Van Halen, Malmsteen et al. were when they first appeared.

I saw him in Yerevan, Armenia, in 2010. The U.S. Embassy presented him at the opera house. Standing room crowd of about 1000. I remembered him from the Tonight Show in 1985 but hadn’t heard much about him since. It was one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever heard. Like a lot of artists, he’s often bigger overseas than domestically. I keep missing him when he plays in/near DC.

Unfortunately, as with many live (phone?) recordings, the latter drumming begins to sound like somebody throwing saucepans into a cupboard. Not the drummer's fault!

The thing that makes Matteo so special is his depth and versatility. My personal opinion is that he is a ground-breaker like one of the greats that comes along every 10 years or so. He's not mired in a single genre, like Yngwie or even Eddie. A lot remains to be seen, with regard to his original material, and where it evolves to or takes him. Will he develop into something that is immediately identifiable, like the others I mentioned? We'll see. He can pretty much play whatever he likes, and play it flawlessly. While he spends most of his time doing the fusion that he does so well, he can absolutely shred or rock or jazz with the best of them. He's a gift, indeed, and it's exciting to watch him on his journey.

The mix is atrocious, that’s all. Bass is too loud, drums sound like cardboard cartons. That’s Mohini Dey on bass, and she’s next level!
@GiordanoCirillo17 күн бұрын
bass is loud because Greg doesn't bring with him any keyboard or rhythmic guitar, if the bass would be lower volume it would sound empty... it's a pity he doesn't have keys I think will perfectly match... I saw some old live session with Keys and definitely helped the entire show... said so they are amazing and I'm thankful for the video being shared ❤

It's impossible to hear the guitar properly with this kind of shit recordings, can't you see that whoever perpetrated this? Howe should sue your ass or remove this crap from the web and if you love music whoever made the recording, should be ashamed.

These ‘tribute’ concerts are always terrible. Always. Terrible. Only exception was George Michael singing ‘Somebody to Love’ at the Freddie Mercury tribute - that was awesome. Otherwise it’s just a parade of mediocre artists getting a bit of reflected glory for the benefit of their own egos.

Understand that when someone of real talent and skill plays a tune, a standard. Theyre never trying to fill boots, they're never trying to copy, and they're never trying to prove anything. Theyre just playing the music they like to play and that inspired him. He played the solo the way matteo would play it because he is... matteo. Simple as that. Sounded freaking awesome.
