I know this was posted 12 years ago but I just have to say it's not the treatment that's the problem anymore it's the people giving the treatment. I not saying everyone that works in the mental health system are bad but many of them are. I know from experience I was in mental health homes to 10 years I'm 26 still in the system. If you want to learn about mental health put yourself in the shoes of people like me.

Personally, if my kids after school program or similarly had a questionnaire asking if I need help or if there is DV going on at home I would say "NO" even if there indeed was! Because the way I was raised (Hispanic) automatically any type of "help" not coming from "family" is only there to get information from you and TAKE YOUR KIDS making the situation worst, it's jus a big NO-NO! although Iam an adult and can now think for myself and not under this shadow of ignorance, I do agree that most of the time government agencies like this whom are intended to help, actually create catastrophic damage and loss, this is only from my personal experience as a child coming from a DV family and witness to other families alike.

Forgiveness is the wrong word for the task at hand, for whatever it is they are trying to achieve. There must be a better word for whatever it is they are trying to achieve.

Thank you for this video! It was very informative. It helped me with through some issues last night. It helped me understand and release and let go and forgive and go deeper in my healing. I will be revisiting this video to help work through the trauma. Using the 5 ways that were given. I have forgiven all of my abusers and really everyone that has hurt me physically, emotionally and sexually. I have found that as I forgive them I set free even more. I have forgiven the past and I am letting go of it. Forgiveness is not for them it's for you. Once I forgave and began to let it go. I felt happier and my thoughts really cleared up. I don't spend time dwelling on the past. I dwell on now. I have talked to the Lord Jesus Christ throughout this healing process. And as I give him the pain from my past. He goes down into the hurt places and heals wear I was storing hurtful memories in my soul. It has been a journey with this healing. It doesn't happen over night. I used to be focused on healing healing healing quickly. I wanted to be healed fast and put it all behind me, but it doesn't work like that and I've accepted that this is going to take time. Journey in your healing. Forgiving is the biggest part of it. Letting go becomes easier the more you forgive.

Here is the problem with forgiveness: a lot of abusers continue to abuse, it is not a single act, and a lot, if not most of abusers do not acknowledge the wrong they committed. you cannot and should not forgive someone who does not ask for forgiveness. you should not forgive someone who projects their sins onto the victim, who makes excuses, who tries to cover their sins. abusers love the forgive and forget game. i do my evil and you forgive and pretend it never happened so I can do it again and again and again without ever having to face what I have done. No, forgiveness is something God can do, our job is to let go. Letting go of the abuse and the abuser is what we need to do, not forgive them. In order to move on, to let go, and not get trapped into becoming an abuser ourselves or sink into permanent destructive victimhood, we need to acknowledge the truth that most serial abusers are not sorry and only apologize, if they do so at all, as a means to an end rather than because they truly see the wrong they have done and want to stop the behavior. Then we need to remove ourselves permanently from their sphere and from those that enable or cover up their sin. It is our responsibility to become whole and healthy. This honors God as he made us to learn and experience. He did not make us to enable or excuse evildoers. They are not helped by our 'forgiveness' as long as they cover their sin with denial. Scott Peck called this ilk 'the people of the lie'...come to terms with their evil, find ways to let go, and remove yourself permanently. That will set you free at last. So, forgiveness, if that means letting go is good, if it means excusing the evil of others and forgiving their sins, is wrong. Only God has that power. Our job is to take care of ourselves. Unrepentent evildoers should not be forgiven as it provides them with the fuel to continue their predatory and/or parasitic game. The narcissists suck blog is probably the best source out there to work through this. The talk was wonderful and I greatly appreciate all the kindness and insight.
