No. It’s Shodan. In Shotokan it’s called Heian Nidan, but in Shito-Ryu, Shorin-Ryu and Wado-Ryu it’s Shodan. Originally it was Shodan, but Gichin Funakoshi switched Shodan and Nidan.
@Mr.Cockney4 ай бұрын
I am afraid that this is clearly Shitoriu PINAN NIdan. Unless three different hi-ranked black belts had taught me wrong. :-). With their differences in stances and displacements, it is similar to Shotokan HEIAN SHOdan.
Plus 3 7th dan black belt teachers. I don’t know about Shorin Ryu, but in ShitoRyu is NIDAN.

don't know what to say... 7th dan... where did he learn just f..g basic technics ? this is a basic kata, he don't even look before changing directions..
@Thq-ff8wz Жыл бұрын
You're not meant to look before changing directions. Head and body moves at the same time for most moves
@shevekanarres5867 Жыл бұрын
@@Thq-ff8wz hello, how can you fight someone if you can't see where he's coming from ? a kata is a virtual, but realistic fight, against several ennemies ; that means you must see them arriving from all sides before defend , then attack.. also it learns you to take reflexes during kumite; for me it's obvious, and a base to learn at the first kata (shito ryu) pinan shodan.. have a good day
@Thq-ff8wz Жыл бұрын
@@shevekanarres5867 many turning moves in kata are not so that you look at another enemy, but so that you take a different angle around an enemy you're already looking at. There are certain ones to deal with multiple, yes, but the basic level kata generally don't have this. Hence it is acceptable to keep your head facing the same direction as your body.

@@Thq-ff8wz "You're not meant to look before changing directions" -> not even a yellow belt should make this mistake. I guess 90% of Dojo's are McDojo's...
@Thq-ff8wz7 ай бұрын
@@TheRomanianWolf you only emphasise the looking before turning for certain specific moves in kata, or if you're doing performance kata. Traditionally, the head and body moves at the same time for almost every move

Not much problem with the basic technique, but even if this is beginner's bunkai, it seems highly misleading, not to say dangerous to suggest that Karate is for a stand up fight against multiple attackers. It also implies that this is a kind of duel with rules and each attacker will calmly wait while you finish off his friends. 1) There are good arguments that Karate was not designed for stand up fights against warriors or even trained opponents, but for self defence against unexpected assault. That is, the Okinawan equivalent of muggers. Someone grabs you and you have to escape and counter. 2) If a group of you got involved in a fight with an obviously prepared assailant, would you stand around and let him knock down, disable or kill your friends before you intervened? 3) Muggers don't know the rules and even if they do, they don't care. So they will try to get you down and kick you in the head. Don't be there. If they want your money, throw them a wallet - doesn't have to be your real one. If they want your head, get out of there if you can.
