Did their band directors give a reason for sitting out so many years?
@DenversMac4 жыл бұрын
They only went because next year UIL is taking over the state military marching band contest so bands were asked to attend just so the attendance of bands was higher. With UIL taking over hopefully they and a few others will be back (or there for first time in a long time)

Since I live in Ohio I wish this style wasn't only popular in Texas. The first time I ever saw a military marching band was freshman year at OU when we went to Kyle Field. I didn't appreciate it then but because of KZbin I realize how much I like this style.
@jorgearredondo34423 жыл бұрын
@@robertridley9279 Its not really that popular since this style of marching is only still practiced by a handfull of bands and usually these bands are from smaller communities or smaller cities (with the exception of Kingwood, Atascosita and Nederland) although i too kinda like this style of marching the one thing i kinda dont like is that its kinda boring to watch since its mostly walking back and forth across the field but i can see where your coming from.

@@jorgearredondo3442 sorry for just now replying to this. I'm drawn to it because of the fundamentals. For example the high school band I was in, our band director always told us we had phasing problems, and problems staying in straight lines, so he would put us in block band just to practice all hitting the yard lines at the same time. So it's cool to see a marching style where the whole point is to be fundamentally sound. That makes it easy to watch as if you were a judge, because it's a lot more obvious when they make mistakes than it is when these bands who do all that fancy stuff make mistakes.

Great job my only thing is the snare drum section needs to clean up those rolls and triplets up some more

Has it been that long? I had the privilege to see their performance at the 2012 NAMMB Contest. That was also the last NAMMB Contest I've attended until this year. A seven year gap!

I love Kingwood, they're a very supportive band. I remember a few months ago when spring band made 5th place and some students in Kingwood came to hug us all😆. After that I fell in love with Kingwood marching band

Great performance. Anyone know why they are so much smaller now than they were back in the late 90s and early 00s? They are pretty awesome at any size.
@scottkolman-keen13075 жыл бұрын
At that point, there was only 1 high school for students in all of Kingwood and even some of what's now Atasocita; Now students attend AHS, KPHS, and KHS, so I suppose that would have something to do with it.

Humble ISD grew RAPIDLY. When a district opens new schools it redraws the district and in humbles case they grew so fast that they opened a few schools all with in a 5-7 years. In recent years, Humble ISD has been noticed as one of the fastest growing school districts in Texas and the Houston area. In the 90s all it had was Humble HS and Kingwood HS. Now it has 6 High Schools (the 3rd didn't open until 2006). That is the biggest reason you see the size of The KM4B diminished. It has actually been growing the last few years. I do not come from Kingwood but am a director who knows the community and current and past directors of the program. Its a great school, great program and has some of the best kids as Larry Ward has said (director from the 90s). The current director Destry Balch and Assistant Tyler Morrison are great musicians and are very happy at the school so no matter the size the quality should remain as it has the last few years for the future (unless something drastic happens)
