Thank you very much for reviewing. I am XC / Trail rider and agree that cerebral concussion by cranial rotational mechanism can occur either MTB modality (XC, Trail, Enduro, DH). That is, my main concern is about protection. And MIPS is more known (and tested) than Turbine technology. After see this video I could realize that Bell Super DH must be a better option, since have a better padding, better protection (MIPS and Spherical MIPS) despite weighing 50g more. It also have fidlock belt and is a little bit expensive than Leatt. The most advantages of Leatt is probably beauty and price. Overall, if you live in a hot place and don't have and e-bike for climbing, full face helmet with chin removable may be the best option.

You know it would've been useful if you also demonstrated how it is removing and putting back on the chinguard while wearing the helmet. That would've shown how convenient or inconvenient this design is.
@lonestarmtb

thanks for the comment. That is a good point. However, this helmet is so lightweight and ventilated, I don't think it's necessary to remove the chin bar during a ride. The only reason you would do this, most likely, would be on a long climb, right? Say 1/2 hour. Anything less, probably not worth it. But, if you are going to have to store the chin bar somewhere, most likely in your pack? So, you could take off the helmet to remove the chin bar as you have to remove your pack to store it. You get some fresh air to your head anyway taking off the entire lid while fumbling with storing it in your pack. But short answer is that is is definitely easy to take off the chin bar while on your head but not as easy to put back on. But if you regroup at the top of a climb, you'll take off your lid to put the chin bar back on for the descent. hope that helps

The padding inside is design like fox speedframe pro helmets which has a thin hair padding inside just to make the helmet comfortable and aside from that, thicker pad won’t still help you and still gonna hurt if you fall anyway. It was designed like that to prevent major injuries.

This is absolutely a goofy review. What a muppet. Let's take some pads from a TLD helmet that don't fit and disrupt the function of the safety system in the Leatt. A good reviewer or "influencer" would have reached out to the vendor about fit and function rather than assume you know more than the engineer. Why would you spend $300 to do this to that helmet and take a chance on your noodle? If you don't trust the tech then why wear it all? Not to mention most helmet manufacturers like POC, Lazer and FOX also don't use pads in the rear. For safety systems like MIPS, SPIN, and 360 Turbine the head sits in the inner structure so impacts can be shrugged off as the helmet and liner are two separate structures but function together. You've mucked this up and now you're putting out bad info.
@lonestarmtb
@lonestarmtb 2 жыл бұрын
you're like that dude in the gas station in the movie No country for old men. You don't know what you are talking about. Mips is a different tech and often manufacturers don't want to pay for that so they create their own such as in this lid, turbine tech. Do you think turbine tech is superior to MIPS for rotational release in a crash, you chooose your preference. There are pluses and minuses. I've showed you a Leatt thick plush liner with turbine tech in their previous model in the first video. So clearly, the turbine tech can function with a thicker liner but like I said, you have no idea what you are talking about. I've made the helmet better. If you can't handle that, move on.

Fwiw I have the dbx 3.0 helmet which similarly does not have padding in the back like you mentioned in this video. I actually had to check if it had the padding because after about 300 miles with that helmet I've never really noticed any discomfort. With the knob in the back adjusted for a tight fit I've had no issues, and almost consider the lack of padding a positive for me since I ride in the humidity and heat of the Southeast US. Not having a pad back their to absorb and hold o to sweat and heat is actually pretty nice for me. Just figured I'd add my 2 cents.

I think most same size liners should work. But thickness might depend on how close you are to the upper limit of the size chart. I had plenty of "expansion" room on the inside on a medium. That's why a turnbuckle adjust is key for fit.

Would you mind updating your experience with this helmet, now that you've had it for awhile? I'm trying to decide between this Leatt and the Bell Super DH. I live in a warm to hot climate so overheating is an issue but I want the protection of a full face helmet. I'm leaning towards the Leatt because it looks like it may not get as hot as the Bell? Thanks in advance.
@lonestarmtb
@lonestarmtb 3 жыл бұрын
I've ridden the Bell super 3r for a long while. Super light and had done a fairly good job in its duties. Bell makes good stuff. I think the super DH looks similar. This Leatt lid is light and breathable for sure. I have no doubt they put that baby thin liner in there to make sure its even cooler for its users. So I think it may be cooler than the Bell. But....We can only rely on the claimed protection rating verbage to determine which helmet would be the best protection in a mishap. I believe the Bell super DH has mips so that may be better option for DH riding. Mips is the real deal for slip plane rotation. These turbines are not the same. They may absorb slight vibrations-ish. Between these little "turbines" and the stock liner, this helmet is definitely a trail helmet. With better liner, its good for enduro and other full face riding.

@@lonestarmtb Thanks again for the info, I really appreciate it. I hear what your saying about the Bell probably being a safer helmet for DH. @lonestarmtb
@lonestarmtb 3 жыл бұрын
you have a price diff for sure. The new version carries the DH rating. I believe this is due to a larger frame similar to their dbx 4.0 DH rated lid. I believe the 3.0 enduro is lighter but has more padding on the interior but smaller shell. So you have the opposite situation for the 4.0 enduro. The 4.0 comes with a softer set of chin bar pads to help with the fit.
@lonestarmtb

@@epiphgd4302 I think with the larger skull of the 4.0 design, there is a greater distance of eps foam from the head to shell. Nice review. I actually have this helmet and when you wear it, you realise why there is no padding at the back. It simply is not needed. The smart design of the helmet keeps the shell off your head, giving it great ventilation and also feels safe because of the breathing room between the head and the helmet. P.S the sunglasses dock is a very cool added feature! very secure and useful.

Thanks for watching and the comment. I think for some head shapes (such as yours) you may have an air gap in the back. I feel though either way, if you crash land on the back of the lid, that would be the bigger concern. Maybe no liner in the back is a good thing for ventilation, like you said, but how about some of those turbines in the back then. Your head will definitely hit that inside back hard if you land backwards. Most helmet are fantastic "feeling" until you eat sheit and no review tells you what happens in a crash. Stay tuned, I'm making a modification video. My friend has a Smith Mainline helmet but he has to take it off on the climbs. I think this Leatt helmet you could leave on but this is probably due to lack of padding inside which increases ventilation. I think the DH rating is a bit misleading because, while this helmet may be as structurally strong as the Mainline, it is going to hurt even more if you crash. So the two aren't comparable but both had DH rating. No review mentions this. Some DH rated helmets feel great but blow apart when you crash. I think there is a gap between testing helmets and real world situations.....
@ivan.rusanov
@ivan.rusanov 3 жыл бұрын
Truly disappointing. I was also looking to buy one to replace my Bell Super DH, but I see this one would have the same issues. I don't get how manufacturers can't come up with a better system for attaching the liner. The super DH has several small pads, which attach separately and I've already lost half of them, since you can't really take them out many times for washing. After the second wash they don't attach properly on those tiny pads, which in turn come off pretty easy, because they're glued to the helmet with some simple double-sided tape. I also have the forehead pad looking like sh*t already. Not to mention the creaking. The 100% Status I had was much more comfortable and the liner was one whole piece. The obvious downside was weight and ventilation. I kind of think the TLD Stage would be one of the best choices, sacrificing the removable chinbar. I don't really take it off anyway.
@lonestarmtb
@lonestarmtb 3 жыл бұрын
It seems Each manufacturer is making their own "Mips" system . For that, I can see how they don't want the liner completely secured to the helmet as they want rotation. My guess is that to satisfy the rotational accomplishment with the turbine system, they want your head to slide around the inside and maybe want your head contacting the turbines. But having said that, the liner in the dbx 4.0 is super plush and same system and rating. If I was working for Leatt, I would suggest to them to make the actual liner out of the turbines and then tab secure (similar to chin pad attachment) that inside the helmet. Or fill the liner with the squishy turbine material - boom!. It would accomplish the same thing. Regarding the Stage, it probably is the best helmet until you crash it. Upon impact, they polycrylite material of the chin bar may blow apart into sharp pieces and could possibly lacerate your face or take out your eye. So if you don't crash, its perfect.

The Yeti is lighter (not sure which frame you have) and maybe more playful as compared to the Capra. If you have to get rid of one, you might flip a coin. But Look at other factors, like the year model. 2018 Capra? That is a new design as compared to 2017. Keep the newer one or best kept one. How was the maintenance on the pivots, switch infinity? Where do you ride mostly? downhill, parks? Both outstanding rides. Keep Both.

the Capra is a big bike. i sized up too which makes it bigger for me. the sizing is different than prior years which threw me off. This bike requires more power input both in control and drive. In this aspect, I like the extra workout as I enjoy more workload than most. So plan on that if you ride flat or non-downhill style trails. If you F up on a jump or while visiting sketchtown there is more to rely on with the Capra. In this aspect, it allowed me to ride with an injury. Also,when I ride my other bike, which is lighter and more nimble, I'm faster on that as a result of "training" on the Capra. One thing I learned is to slack out the front fork to drop the front end to allow better cornering for those twisty trails. In summary, it could do it all but plan on extra watts. If you live near the mountains with bigger dh, then factor that in as well. I did test the tires in softer mush dirt trail and it stuck like glue.

I was also looking at the jeffsy and capra. I’m looking for an all around bike and I like to jump around a lot and want a playful bike. Definitely want a 27.5, I’m 6 foot 1”. Was thinking xl? What bike and size you think?

the Capra is a big bike. i sized up too which makes it bigger for me, large. I address that tire issue I had in my arkansa enduro video if you haven't seen it. Capra sizing changed for 2018, mine is large b ut I could probably ride a medium and you could probably ride a large. It is preference i think, smaller will yield more control but longer will be more stable.

Go to your LBS and find a bike that fits you, then go online and check the geometry. Then go on YT and choose the bike with the closest geometry to the one you sat on. As for the model, I would go for whatever jeffsy has a rockshox pike. The capra will eat potential jumps and roots that you'd be able to have fun on with the jeffsy.

I didn’t recall you mentioning in the video. Is this a 29 or 27.5 Capra?

You are wayyyyy over gunned on those trails with that bike. The Jeffsy would have been a better choice overall. Even with tires of your choice, the Capra is suited to trails a bit burlier than the“big” state of Texas has to offer. Very intuitive video though!

yes, it is a big gun fo sho. although it really helped riding with an injury and it can handle large jumps. Mountain bound it will go on occasion, although Texas is getting a lift bike park soon, spider mountain.

Are you using the same width rim with the comparison? I ride both e13s and Minions on different bikes. Love them both.

similiar. But after that video, I've been running the minions on those same rims. . 2.6 and 2.5. No more issues.
