Wrong lyrics, "with His coat so Grey"??? - With His 'Coat so Gay'. Such a pity - English Tradition and History.
@mr.briton3652 ай бұрын
Good evening David. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a bad time watching my video, I appreciate how disappointing it must have been. I think you’ll find that in the video the ‘r’ in ‘grey’ is very clearly pronounced. However it varies from ‘grey’ and ‘gay’ depending on which version of the song. I hope this clears things up !
@davidhorn60082 ай бұрын
Thank You for replying - I never had a "bad time" watching Your video, in fact I enjoyed it - I merely commented that the lyrics are wrong. My source is 'The Oxford Song Book' which was included in 'The National Curriculum' for schools in Great Britain from the early part of the 20th century until 1964. I have two copies, one published in 1948 and one published in 1962. They both say "with Your coat so gay" as We sang at school.
@mr.briton3652 ай бұрын
@@davidhorn6008 I appreciate your reply. I fully understand where you’re coming from. It seems when it comes to the older, more traditional versions of the song, the lyrics are ‘gay’ as you quoted. I’ll see if I can upload a different version with the correct lyrics in the next couple of days to right this. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, feel free to let me know if you have any more suggestions or feedback.
@davidhorn60082 ай бұрын
You'll probably know this, most do but some will not - at the time of writing this song the word 'gay' meant only - light hearted and carefree - the modern commonly accepted meaning of this word may be confusing to some!
