I've got a Stellar Wars game that isn't getting any power to the solenoids for the bumpers up top. I've been poking at it with my limited skills and knowledge to no luck... after seeing your very intricate test bench setup, now I'm thinking this is out of my depths and sending it to you would probably be a much better idea lol. Any way you can give me a quote to troubleshoot/fix the board for my game?

Nice review. Manufacturing of QS80 is not dead - yet. When (*if*) I get around to selling Great Plains Electronics. I plan on keeping that particular piece. I have a QS80, ver3 in the works and have had it for quite awhile but never get the time to work on it. Retiring from main job in a couple years, Hope to bring QS80 back to forefront when I retire. My assembler for this sort of item retired and moved away to greener pastures in Arizona (greener?). So when/if I get the bugs worked out of Ver 3, I plan on selling this only in kit form. I think I still have the various released QS80 software versions backed up onto my old Dell laptop. I really need to get them off that thing before it goes dead permanently. I wrote the code such that you can verify signals as the test was running. There is even a 'slow down' function to make it run even slower. Never thought about a 'speed up' function. Good suggestion. I think I will add a step function through test speeds. Default at fast, press game test button at door (or equal on your switch tester) to Slow it down, press again to slower, press again back to fast. With the very limited space within the code window, I will see if that is possible. As I look at how that board is hooked on the top of the board (just like I often do) - I think this really could use a fishpaper insulator on the bottom to keep it isolated from anything underneath. I'll look into that for the Ver 3 as well. I wish I could think of a better way to support the board within visual distance of the CPU board without it falling off. And now that you have had this for quite awhile, any other suggestions?
@ChrisHiblerPinball2 ай бұрын
Thanks Ed. Speed Control for the lamp test is my most desired update. Offering fish paper would be nice. I have hot glued notepad backing cardboard to the one I have. Offering a longer ribbon (ala one you made for Jim Palson IIRC) would be nice. Dual 7-segment LED blocks would make switch matrix reporting nicer as it definitely takes longer to "walk across the switch matrix diagonal" like I do with S80 built-in switch test. The precarious positioning of the QS80 will be improved when I finish my test panel for S80. I won't have to use my Spiderman as a test bed. In the video, two of the blue lamp LEDs light out of order, which is different from S80 attract mode. I haven't researched why that is. I'm glad to hear that a revision is contemplated. Be well my friend.

I'm building a System 80/80A test panel but I don't know if I'll extend it to 80B. I also have a start at a System 3 complete panel to include the Aux Sound Board as found in Big Hurt and the later GTB games. That one is going to be a bit tough to figure out the connections.

Gottlieb connectors are a pain in the ass. I just got a Hollywood heat in for repair, customer says it was acting a little flaky so he decided to adjust the voltage pot on the power supply without a meter. Now nothing works. I took a quick look. No display, no MPU, and locked on red light on the soundboard.
@ChrisHiblerPinball2 ай бұрын
@@mongi4435 Ouch. I'd guess that a LOT of TTL chips have been roasted. Diode check any 74xx IC on the MPU. "Normal" reading would be about .280-.300. Anything less than that indicates shorted IC(s).
