My independent research of the last 15 years, has revealed that Charles Dickens was not the original author of "A Christmas Carol." The original co-authors, as I have concluded, were an American couple named Mathew Franklin Whittier and Abby Poyen Whittier. However, Dickens did completely re-write the Spirit of Christmas Present. Note the initial description of his appearance, where he is literally seated on a throne made of squishy meat dishes and steaming (alcoholic) punch. That's Dickens' sensibilities. He could not possibly have written this novella.

Dickens re-worked what was originally a spiritualist redemption novella, into a secularized, sensationalized "Ghost Story of Christmas" (as he subtitled it). The intrinsic power of this story comes from Mathew and Abby (chiefly, Abby), not Charles Dickens.
