I grew up in the blue and red house in the 70's that makes an appearance on the right. From our knowledge, it used to be the general store and post office in the little town of Tolna. I still drive by there and took the train ride when it went all the way to New Freedom and took the shortened version 2 years ago.

This railroad just had a huge turnout for its 140th birthday party on September 7, 2024. Hundreds of riders turned out for rides of only $1.40 and free ice cream and cake. They lost money, but they wanted to say "thanks" to the community and people from around the country who have supported it since 1884. It was a lot of run. I rode two of the four trains.

I was on a Lerro charter on the East Broad Top last October and I will NEVER do another one . Pete is a poor tour operator with little organizing skills. They were cutting tall brush DURING the charter on my dime . This type work needed to be complete way BEFORE the charter !! The night shoot was a total joke and chaos was the major theme. This line , though short , has MANY varied photo sites , yet we spent hours on the big fill at Runk Road. At a fee of $ 850 .00 , I expected MUCH more . NEVER AGAIN Pete .

That's my whistle I sold to them. It is a Southern long bell three- chime last used on Southern's Asheville Division and likely cast at the foundry at Asheville NC. I think it's one of the prettiest sounding whistles you'll ever hear.

Welcome back big Jim we all thought you retired but it's great to see you still doing videos. Wilmington and western railroad #58 will be pulling the July 4th train this year and 98 will be running the fall excursions train of this year. Great video.

Doesn’t this C&O H6 (H 1-5 too) have a very unique trailing truck where the truck frame is almost stationary while the wheels move side to side while negotiating curves on an axle within an axle? Must be an interesting story behind that development.

A good, well-trained steam Locomotive Engineer would NEVER steam through a passenger station with his Cylinder Drain Cocks OPEN as depicted here from @ 4:20 to 4:37 ..... I am certain this is in violation of most railroad operating rules..... but the scene effects look great "on camera"!! At least the Station got its platform steam-cleaned.....!! :-)

They are reopening the tracks the other way from Rockhill/Orbisonia toward Pogue, Saltillo and beyond. The tracks were unused since April 1956 and require a complete rebuild and regrading. They already reopened the 5 mile tourist era line north to Colgate Grove wye. The railroad was reopened with new owners, the Kovalchicks sold the railroad to them. The Mt. Union end was not included in the sale.
