As someone who has suffered from depression (and still does), including feelings of self-loathing and guilt, and has considered doing what James does in the In Water ending, I do not like that ending. I vastly prefer Leave. It was the ending I got on my first playthrough and is my favorite of all the endings. It's actually even helped me a bit mentally and overall, I just consider it the most satisfying and best thematically to me. I like to imagine James left Silent Hill and adopted Laura like Mary had wanted, moving on with his life. I can never get behind the In Water ending due to my own personal experiences. As a result, it always makes me uncomfortable when I hear people say it's the deserved or most appropriate ending considering what it entails.

The leave ending actually finishes his character development through the story. The other 2 leave his story incomplete.

I think that "Leave" ending is the canon one, Because he came to silent hill to drive himself and Mary's body into Toluca lake, but maybe Silent hill wanted him to live, to get second chance at life and i think that his silent hill was more Therapy and a way to find the strength in him to continue his life. Him leaving with Laura can be seen as a good thing, he might ended one life, but he now can get some redemption with being her guardian. And i think this could be Canon cause "In water" is more of a Japanese traditional thinking and James as seen in game is American. Also the video is pretty fun. good job dude and keep going.

There is a heroic and corageus feeling into entering a town full of monsters to find out the truth, it just doesn't fit the suicidal mentality. I don't see him whinning abount wanting to die a single moment. Also, if he really wanted that he could easily just let himself die at the hand of one of those monsters. The suicidal ending only makes sense if he sees that as an hounarable act, like the Seppuku ritual, but suicide because of depression makes no fucking sense, depressive suicidal people don't even wanna get out of bed let alone killing hordes of monsters to save his wife. The Leave ending fits more thematicaly like the divine comedy poems, you go to hell to find out the road to paradise (or redemption) called by your loved one (beatriz in this case), it just fits waaay better the feel of the story.

In water ending is literally canon. James' father's room had a note that said James and his wife went missing in the town of Silent Hill in SH4 the room.

Leave ending is not consistent with SH2's themes of guilt and penance. Also, James doesn't have to say he's suicidal. He has literally deluded himself into believing he never killed his wife-why? Because he cannot accept or forgive himself for what he's done.

Guy Cihi (James' OG voice actor) explained that, although he preferred 'Leave' as the ending, 'In Water' was implied to be the proper ending from the point of view of Team Silent (although the official line is there is no canon ending) since it fits in culturally with the Japanese literary and actual phenomenon of 'Shinjū' 心中 (double suicide). In fact, this story would count as a 'Muri-Shinjū' (無理心中 - meaning 'murder-suicide'), which is a commonly expected thing to happen if a husband were to murder their spouse in Japan. Such an act is extremely shameful in Japanese society and many people would choose death over living in that kind of shame. The Japanese novelisation from Konami takes this to be the ending with some very interesting perspectives on the subject. In fact, it's not even presented from James' perspective as an unhappy ending. There's an online translation of the book out there, definitely worth a read.

They did Angela dirty in the remake. She looks like Eddie’s sister. I get that things weren’t going to look the same because it’s been so long since the first project, but it’s important to keep the characters original intended features or else they’ll look like a different person in the same clothes which is what happened. OG Angela’s features were sharp and now they’re extremely rounded and wide. They slightly changed Jame’s features, but it actually looks better. Everyone else’s more or less stayed the same. Mary/Maria’s voice actress didn’t show as much emotion and there wasn’t enough of a difference between both characters’ voices. The game could’ve used a smidge more fog. I still think the remake was great though.

None of them are "canon" according the creators themselves, but I do like Guy Cihi's personal reasoning for preferring "Leave": It allows James to both honor Mary's last wishes and find a new reason for living in becoming a father figure to Laura (which hits closer to home for Cihi because he's a dad himself). It also gives Laura a loving parent that she's never had, and helps both of them to fill in the empty space left behind by Mary's death. In short, it's by far the most emotionally satisfying ending while still being very bittersweet; hardly the kind of Sunshine & Lollipops resolution that fans of "In Water" often try to paint it as.

There is no canon ending. You can decide what makes the most sense. Leave is "Good" ending in the sense James has set himself free from the burden and moves on with life like Mary wanted him to. I personally prefer In Water because it encapsulates how depressive and dark whole story was from the get go.

Here's what I've always argued in defense of James being Pro Leave Ending myself. (as it was the very first ending I got in my first playthrough of the original in 2002 and the first ending I got in 2024 for the remake) James was going through a living hell with his progressively sick and dying wife who was in a spiraling mental state. Mary states how the hospital is making bank off of keeping her alive as a way to both mock and illustrate how much of a toll it's been on her and James' life in general. James is the dutiful husband coming to visit and bringing flowers..Mary acknowledges in her letter that she could see how hard her situation has been on him and she even correctly guesses that he must hate her for it which is the reason WHY she even tells him that she wanted to die..to end the pain. Because SHE knew. James snapped finally under the weight of everything and I always give massive props to him for sticking it out with her as long as he did. If he didn't smother her we wouldn't really have a story now would we? It would cut to the funeral and that's that. People treat all murder equally and that's flawed binary thinking. The law recognizes killing in self defense as a very extreme case that is not punishable if proven. The bible is even willing to justify killing in religious warfare but as a commandment not to kill one of your own it's always a slippery slope that people cannot fathom the world being in shades of gray. Why does god detest murder but endorse war? The old testament in leviticus even says if you curse your own parents you should be put to death so human morality is highly flawed in these examples. I personally do not feel it's wrong or immoral to end suffering but that's because I'm of the opinion that one must be prepared to make the hard choices in life. All that aside, I believe that James deserved to live his life own up to what he did and move on. It's the complexity of the situation that should really get people talking instead of just blindly labeling him a killer.

Silent Hill 2 is going down as the best horror game of 2024 for sure. I'm sure people who weren't fans of the game before are now fans. It's amazing how much hope people gained back from playing this game. Hopefully after they remake 3 and 1 they will also try to work on the Siren series and revamp that game. I feel like Silent Hill for James is a form of purgatory, and regardless of what he does, it always brings him back to square one unless he breaks the cycle. Many of the corpses depicting him dead throughout the game could be evidence of this, and it’s very likely that he died in the way the “In Water” ending depicts his death, but it only made the cycle start all over again. The “Leave” ending seems to me to be James finally breaking the cycle and freeing himself of the desire to get back with Mary. It’s the only ending that I can view as making sense. I feel like the remake also adds more evidence to support this theory too.

surprisingly this runs on the steam deck with the lowest settings with fsr performance I get around 18fps at the start but in the later parts of the game its mostly 30 if you cap the fps. make sure to run it in dx11 tho, hope that helps.

Dude I got into a whole ass giga-argument on discord about this. All I said was that ***ALL DEVELOPERS*** and studios need to stop releasing stuff that’s not ironed out yet, even if it takes an additional few months or whatever. I was immediately singled out and treated like I was a nazi attacking Bloober and it had nothing to do with any of that stuff. I never had a problem with character designs or the supposed “woke” bs, but they used that angle when all I said was if they’re not going to fully polish something for a particular platform, then they shouldn’t release it on that platform, whether it’s Bloober or EA or any of them.

in 2024 why you’d have a 3050 TI when you can find a 3070/3080 for $400-$500 is beyond me. I don’t see you complaining about Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead 2, The Last of Us Part 1, etc. Only when it’s a game from a “smaller” company you complain.

3050ti mobile is half as fast as a desktop 1070ti and together with 4gb vram is the reason why your game is stuttering so badly. dlss won't help much because your likely playing at 1080p so it will look terrible even at performance mode.
