@@bigmanbigman2544 just saw you're other videos and i take it back! You got in that ring more than once and i respect it. However I do think countering a lowkick with a superman punch would be pretty ineffective.

@sennesuijs46522 ай бұрын
@@jaralbowmanI just feel like a leeping hook and a superman punch are not fit for countering as demonstrated in this clip, cause by the time you throw a superman punch after sliding away from a lowkick your opponent will have recovered his posture. Same counts for the leeping hook, no?

I don't mean to be overly critical or speak negatively, but sincerely from all the videos I've seen, I think the average standards for this style are very low. The skinny guy here would not be a black belt in Kyokushin, Ashihara, etc. I guess it's a very americanized form of Karate..

I got a bloody nose in that ring. It was my first sparring session. I remember the kids name too: Raul Ceron. Despite the nose, I have fond memories of the old Doraville Boxing Club. Asa Gordon, Paul Murphy, Johnny Gant, Bernard, Malik, Sammy Culbreath, David Rodriguez, Xavier Biggs, Jerome "Showtime" Stanley, Richard Trammell, Cesar Esquivel, Roberto Ceron, Xavier Toliver, Rhoshii Wells, Ebo Elder, Tyrone Trice, Perry, Ralph Megginson, and a few other amateurs, pros, visiting talent and regulars there. For those still left on this earth, I wish them well.

@MrHoover779 жыл бұрын
I agree to an extent. A top level NCAA division 1 wrestler will give a bjj guy a problem almost all the time! Unless you are Demian Maia, Fabricio Werdum, or Roger Gracie. But it could still happen. If you want to compare karate to bjj.... there is no comparison. Bjj wins EVERYTIME! Superior... just like you said.
@ThiloSar10 жыл бұрын
aren't they allowed to block low kicks?
@MrHoover779 жыл бұрын
Low kicks are not allowed in Yoshukai. It's a pussy sport. If you want to learn the basic use of nunchakas, the sai, how to break #2 pine board... so do it. It won't help you on the street. Street fighting technique I believe in is boxing, wrestling, Judo and BJJ. That's it.
@spencerharris97998 жыл бұрын
+Spetsnaz Pocomaxa Low kicks are allowed in Yoshukai.It is a full contact karate sadly the quality of Yoshukai has gone down over the years...
@MrHoover778 жыл бұрын
+Spencer Harris Low kicks might be allowed NOW. When I competed it wasn't allowed. I fought in the 1990's and it wasn't allowed then. Everything has changed now. It is pretty much a disgrace. Low kicks are probably allowed in full contact competitions, just not point sparring. I always hated point sparring because if your opponent even touches you from waist up.... it's a point for them. I fought full contact but not in tournaments. I was only a brown belt back then. To fight full contact in Yoshukai.. you have to be a black belt and you have to go through 2 years of full contact training before you can enter a full contact tournament. You are right though... it has gone down the tubes. Everything has changed now about Yoshukai.
@MrHoover778 жыл бұрын
+Spetsnaz Pocomaxa Another thing I didn't like about Yoshukai open tournaments was that Kung Fu guys weren't allowed to fight. Reason being is because those guys are lethal in tournament fighting. I remember a Kung Fu guy kneeing an opponent to the skull and cracking it during competition fighting. That is what stopped them from fighting in tournaments. I say to hell with it. Don't be scared and let everybody fight! I've even seen people get hurt badly in strict Yoshukai tournaments. Anyway, sorry to ramble on. That is the main reason I got out of it and took up boxing, wrestling, and brazilian jiu jitsu. I'm no bad ass but I learned what works and what doesn't. I still remember my first class of wrestling... it's worse than BJJ!!! I was so sore after class that my bro had to drive me home. I paid my dues in BJJ as well. I had the pure shit choked out of me several times, but that comes with the territory.
@MrHoover7711 жыл бұрын
I'm a former Yoshukai student under Hiroyuki Koda. This was in the 1990's. Yoshukai is so WATERED down now. Even back in the 1990's it wouldn't help you in a street fight. What I mean by "watered down" is the fighting/kumite competition. If you want to protect yourself... learn boxing, wrestling, and submissions (BJJ/ Catch Wrestling). Bottom line! I've been through the bullshit of karate and it doesn't work in real street situations!
