This is the first of your videos I have ever watched. To me, your choice of the words, “very challenging experiences” all by itself, DOES minimize what some people especially in northwestern North Carolina have been through. Those people experienced death and destruction, and trauma, not just “challenges”. They can’t even go near bodies of water because of the smell of decaying bodies. Whole towns are completely gone. Whole houses were washed away, some with people inside. I’m in Southern California and it breaks my heart to see what these people have been and are going through. Explaining that your purpose is to just show what worked for you is very good- it might help a lot of people prepare well for any but the most dire circumstances (which you just can’t prepare for at all, so I’m not being critical here). People need to know these things.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. At the time of this video we were still pretty unplugged from the world. Most of our area still does not have internet or cell service and so getting information was and has still been somewhat delayed. But yes, the loss there is devastating. I have also heard encouraging stories of people helping people, spiritual community being built where there was once wasn’t any neighborly connection, and spiritual revival despite a very good reason to lose faith. Despite the circumstances I trust that God works all things together for our good and His glory. Again, thank you for sharing your perspective.

@@TheAtWhatCostBlog yes. I hope I didn’t sound mean. I watched a couple of videos from Heavenly Minded Home lately, and watched Justin Rhodes that he filmed just as it was happening, with massive fast moving rivers of water moving suddenly through his land. He is a 3rd generation farmer/homesteader, and he kept yelling, “this is the 100-year flood!!!” I just watch these and pray. I’m praying for revival in general to come on this world, too. Heidi on Heavenly Minded Home talked about “survivor’s guilt”, because she knows people whose houses are gone or a tree fell and broke the roof or windows, etc, and “all” that happened to her is their basement got flooded and they couldn’t get much of the the water out till power was restored, and all their clothes were destroyed by moisture and mold. So I pray comfort and peace on you because directly affected or not, you are mentally and emotionally affected anyway. People talk about preparedness but there are SO many things you just cannot ever prepare for and you just plain need God’s help. 💕💕

@@gerriebell2128 You didn't sound mean at all! This is all hard. Our home did not have any damange, but about a quarter of the homes in our neighborhood are a total loss. Seeing someones homes split entirely in half, flooded, and a total loss is hard. We also had a report of a mother holding her two babies under a tree in their home. There are 10 foot walls of trees down waiting for clean up on almost every road. It will take time for everyone to recover. I can't imagine an entire town gone. It's heartbreaking. I can relate to the survivors guilt. I agree, all we can do in pray and help those who we are able. Thanks again for your thoughful comments, I appreciate them.

Board games and cards puzzles help keep the mind busy when its very quiet. Crank radio with battery and solar option for some back round noise. Bring your solar lighting that you have outside to inside the house to save battery for lighting also is a good tip I keep powdered milk and powdered eggs in my house for these kinds of things. With water you can make most anything with that. If you want things at a minimum just use what you have in your home and make a small version of things needed Heat Power light water food. The other thing i would suggest in walkies talkies. No cell towers no cell services

I have had a lot of gatherings every week in my small and cluttered home, decorated with hand me downs. They were my best friends because they took me as I was. My guest cooked, I cleaned up, the kids had the living room for their stories and plays, aleut's had the kitchen table. Just make sure the there are seating options, ditch the cushions, liberate the sofa and chairs. If you dont have room for people to sit, it is not welcoming. I stopped visiting one of my friend because I had to make my way to a chair through the clutter on the floor and try to declutter a chair to sit. This friend had bedbugs and because she has so much clutter it made it challenging to get rid of them. She accidentally brought this problem to my home, it was a nightmare. I have been helping that friend for 20 years to declutter and move , I can't do it anymore and she hasn't changed her ways, she is still a shopaholic and a hoarder.

I guess all we can do in life is count our blessings. And thank God you had water to wash atleast. I can't imagine high 80's and no way to wash up, wash clothes for 9 days. We live up north in New England and plan for about a month with no power and limited water because we have a well. So food and supplies, clothes, etc...Our woodstove makes all the difference....yet it would be so hard to wash and dry thick heavy clothes, wool omg, etc., so being minimal is out.

I wonder if it was my mom that commented that. She claims to be a Christian but is very much only wanting to show a perfect life to the world. She's very much about not talking about your feelings or struggles. Make up on, dressed nice before you leave the house is a must. It took me going through an abusive marriage and a dear friend helping me realize the truth. My relationship with God is so much better now. My relationship with my new(8years together, 7 married] is soo much better because of it too. Was hard to leave my ex husband but he isn't a Christian and never will be.

In 2020 our government said to stock up 6 weeks of shelf stable food. 2022(I think) they upped it to 6 months. I think heeding our government's advice if not doubling it is a good thing. Our grid is not stable. It can go down completely with just 6 areas attacked. Including part of Canada. The outage would be a minimum of 6 months. We have no back up generators. They have to be built overseas then shipped in. I am not against minimalism. Just in smart ways. When we were without electricity 4 days after a blizzard, we used paper plates. We kept the house picked up. We had no water besides our stored and tub water. So only washing silverware and pots was really nice. ❤ Aluminum foil is useful for "grilling" veggies to hear them up.

As I understand it.. we do have a number of the HUGE generators strategically placed throughout the country, HOWEVER.. the logistics of moving them is an heroic undertaking.. so yes, it would take MANY months to move them in to place.

@TheAtWhatCostBlogАй бұрын
I believe it is a Firmin. I’m not certain how many watts, but it was a larger one. We have some other plans for it with our camper in the future, so we went with a larger one. But it came from Lowe’s.
