Does the cutter retain the coupon, and what about the chips ?
@niftylittlebleeder6 ай бұрын
The cutter retains the coupon which is then stored in the back of the housing thus leaving full bore isolation in place. The cut produces minimal swarf but it is sensible to wash out the lines after use. thanks

How would i change to those in a system in use? When i screw the old one off i assume water is gonna come out. Is it enough to turn of the circulation pump?
@niftylittlebleeder7 ай бұрын
Hi you just need to isolate the radiator - switch off the valves either side at the bottom of the radiator. When you remove the bleed valve a small amount of water will come out but having a towel handy will be sufficient. They are quick and easy to fit to an existing system. Thanks

I have used these for a few years, most impressed. Even tho it is still possible to buy the "c" variation, with the replacement cartridge, I have never been able to find the replacements. Typically I end up just buying new. ALADDIN AUTOVENT HV30C CARTRIDGE - not well stocked at all, even using your website to look at stockists. I live in the UK, Screwfix, Toolstation, Amazon etc. It seems wasteful having to change these if you had the c variant wit ha replacement cartridge designed to avoid that.

Here is my tale of woe with this product. I have a particular problem with my heating system. The clown who installed it years before I arrived had a T junction from one of the radiator pipes. It was cut and the pipe was crushed shut and soldered. Yes, this was not a professional. Anyhoo, the soldered end started to leak and so after watching dozens of videos on cutting off water to a live pipe, the Aladin Easyfit isolator was the obvious choice. There is a six-inch gap from the leaking edge until a join midway along the pipe to the T junction on the main pipe to the radiator. I put the isolator valve there. What needs to be mentioned here is that unlike any video I have seen this pipe was not against a wall or rigid against other pipes. It is unsupported from the main pipe. So, before I drilled into the isolator I had to put a piece of wood between it and a floor joist. In the hope, it would help brace the pipe to be drilled. Yes, this nightmare is in a basement. What I had not known was that the part you drill in is threaded, not free. So, as I drilled with a powerful AEG the thread drove the cutter into the pipe as it should. BUT...In the first second of this drilling, the drill forced the pipe to bend up slightly. Water spurted out of the isolator and my face went pale thinking that water would now flood the basement because there was no way to turn it off. Luckily the clamp seals held and the valve too but not enough to stop the original leak. I am now back to square one all because I did not know the cutter was threaded and because the pipe was free-standing. None of this is the Easyfit's fault. Had I known the things that could have gone wrong I would have drilled a lot slower as well as in some way supported the floating pipe. So, anyone about to use this product, know that it does what it is supposed to as long as you make sure you do your part in getting the pipe ready. Oh my giddy Aunt, I hate plumbing.

is there a video that shows what happens to the pipe and it's shavings/pieces under it? does my water supply now have chunks of the original copper flowing through the supply down stream from this point?
@niftylittlebleeder Жыл бұрын
Hi the piece of pipe is removed without creating swarf and the whole segment is pushed securely to the rear of the housing and will not enter your water supply. Our explainer animation shows this too kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3S5gmN-oN2Bm8ksi=ZPAWFNwHn4J0uKmS Thanks for your comment

Marvelous device. But it’s an overly expensive fix IMO. Paying $250 for what’s basically a convenience seems a bit excessive.
@dl33tc0dr6 Жыл бұрын
What happens to the portion of the pipe that is removed? Chunks sent through the line?
@niftylittlebleeder Жыл бұрын
The EasyFit cuts a swarfless cut removing a whole section of pipe which is squashed (in the 15mm) or pushed in the pro versions into the chamber at the back of the housing. So no fragments or large pieces of metal are introduced into the pipe-work.

Yes, but if there a one way valve, how do we purgethe radiator
@niftylittlebleeder Жыл бұрын
The Autovents automatically purge the radiators so there is no need to purge or bleed manually. If the radistor needs to be drained the valves can be loosened to allow air to enter and the radiator can be drained. Thanks for your comment 🙂

Waste of money. If you have any sludge in the radiator they will block very quickly. Also if you drain your system or radiator down for a short period they will not work because they have to fully dry out first. Yes, you can use them to manually open them to release air but why pay extra to use them in manual mode? 5 year guarantee - get a new one free and pay perhaps £100 to get a plumber to fit again. Another expensive item requiring regular maintenance, albeit every X years.
@niftylittlebleeder2 жыл бұрын
Hi sorry you have had problems with your Autovents. Having Autovents fitted to your radiators will reduce air in the system and ultimately sludge as air increases corrosion. Automatically removing air increases heat output and saves energy. They are very easy to fit or replace - simply switch off the radiator and unscrew the valve no plumber needed. Faulty valves are covered under our 5 year warranty simply contact us to arrange.

What is to stop the copper pipes from blowing out either end under pressure?
@niftylittlebleeder2 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, the EasyFit has grippers machined into the housing which grip the pipe to which is fitted. Also inside the valve is a double seal system which ensures the valve doesn't leak and can withstand pressures of 16bar. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Fitted one of these today to cover for an old gate valve in my airing cupboard which has been letting by badly. I'm not a plumber, but the procedure looked fairly straightforward and I have all the tools. I've watched all the videos for the 15mm version, but this seems to be the only one showing the 22mm valve. It's a much bigger beast! I found all the steps to be more arduous than shown for the 15mm, including fitting the two halves of the boot and tightening the screws on it. This had to be finished off by hand and a ratchet. My drill did not even begin to push in the cutter, despite maximum settings and 32Nm torque, so I I did it entirely by hand power and a ratchet. All in all, a success, and a big saving on a plumber's visit, but certainly not as quick a job as implied!
@niftylittlebleeder2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear you had some struggles with the 22mm - we have found during our research many drills do not perform to their claimed torques so it could be this was a factor. Good to hear you got there in the end though thanks for the feeback.

Will a Stanley fatmax 18v brushless hammer drill be powerful enough to fit 1 of these?
@niftylittlebleeder2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew the Stanley Fatmax drill should work well. The EasyFit requires 32 Newton Metres to fit according to their specifications the Stanley Drill can provide up to 60 Newton Metres. Just make sure you're using the correct EasyFit for the pipework you have - 15mm for metric pipe only, the Pro for imperial 1/2" pipe, 22mm for metric or imperial 3/4" and the 28mm for metric or imperial 1" pipe. Thanks for your interest.

I was not impressed with it and I'll tell you why! The cutting bore didn't line up with the two red marks, despite turning for ages, so i took it apart only to find out it had cut through? A Plumber ended up rectifying it. So much for a quick cheap fix!

I have just tried to fit an Aladdin Isolator and failed. First, my 20v Ferrex drill would not drive the cutter into the pipe so, I had to use a ratchet. As the slug approached the back of the pipe it stopped moving forward so, the red line was not aligned with front of the collar. I had to press the valve spindle in against the water pressure(3.5bar) in order to fit the plastic collar but despite using a 12v drill at half torque and running the screws in sequentially the collar split! I now find that the valve does not fully close! How I wish I had simply used the snatch method which I have done on previous occasions when extending c/h systems.

Same problem too. All these demos show new copper pipe being isolated, but old copper is tougher to get through and have to use a lot of force to cut through with a ratchet socket set. Then the plastic cap spilt in one corner yet I used a manual screwdriver to tighten it.
