I stay away from plumbing and electrical. Those are licensed trades and the customer should get a licensed electrician or plumber to do the work.

Seems like your speaking chinese...here's how to explain..a black may be load or power and white be no power or line..therefore to correctly connect a gfi.. put the black on load and white in line..persay..not just showing a model diff!!!
@handymanjourney2 күн бұрын
Sorry but this is incorrect. You will have a load for both black and white and you will have a line that is both black and white as well

Well done. I'd hire you in a minute based on this video. I'd throw in, don't climb on stuff and break it. Had that happen. If you do accidentally break something, own up to it and make it right, somehow. Had stuff broken when I wasn't in the room and only found out after they left. That leads me to be suspect of every tradesman now. Don't badmouth the client in front of them. Yep, had that happen. You can always decline work if you don't like the client. You can also do the job, then leave and complain about them later, and never accept a job for that client again. Also, goes without saying, don't steal anything from the client. Don't even help yourself to candy from a candy dish. Always act the way you'd want someone to act in your own home if they were doing a job for you.

Question: What did you do with the green wire that you cut off from the back of the ballast?
@CarlosGarcia-ls4hn3 күн бұрын
At 2:24 in the video, you show the ballast box with all the two red and two blue wires cut off, but you also cut off the other wires on the opposite side of the box. One appears to be a white wire, but I cannot tell what color the other wires are. Where are these latter wires hooked to?

The ladder scenario is too real. I got a job doing tile on a balcony which required a ladder. On the second day, the ladder collapsed on me. It took me out for about 2 weeks.

#1 takeaway is that a business license sole purpose is to allow the government to take money from you in the form of taxes. Get away from this mindset. Insurance is one thing. A license DOES NOT do anything to ensure good ethical and complete work...NOTHING. You are creating a contract to give money to the government, that is all. Stop getting LLCs and licenses.

I just bought a new garbage disposal because the previous one rusted through and was leaking. I hooked it up but it won’t turn on. It’s not the button. I hooked up the wires; black to black & white to white, and the ground. Still nothing. Circuit breaker panel works fine. I’m clueless at this point. Any pointers?

Thank you Allen, great video! This gave me the confidence to install a grab bar in our shower. I bought a 36" Delta grab bar at ACE and then did my research online to figure out how to install. Your video was perfect. I watched another video where the use blue paint tape to make all your measurements on and this helped me a lot and protected my tiles when I slipped with the diamond hole saw. The hardest part for me was starting on the angle with the hole saw which you seem to be quite efficient at. I did get a little better with each hole. I did notice that the grab bar you used lined up with top and bottom holes on the template, with my delta bar the top and bottom holes were offset to match the correct distance with the wingit template. This cause me some hesitation and fear, but after triple measurements I finally decided to go for it and everything lined up perfectly. Thanks again for taking the time to put this video together!

What I don’t understand is how you got a wing it to work right next to that stud? I was told you need to be several inches away from any stud
@Jay-my4gp16 күн бұрын
Just to confirm you dug a hole at spot where you put in steel post in order to have room for cement. How deep and wide do you souggest?
@handymanjourney16 күн бұрын
About a foot deep and 8-10inches wide. Depending on your area, if you're in an area that freezes you need to dig below the frost line so that concrete is below the frost line or the frost will push the concrete up

Traditionally we have stayed away from realtors and property management companies. However we have locked down some higher end realtors that just send us with a list of repairs of properties and then just send the bill. So there are some diamonds in the rough out there. Thank you for your insight!! With your content I am walking away with an entire new perspective of property management companies. I would like to put together a portfolio like you mentioned to drop off at their offices. Do you happen to have a sample of what that looked like for you that you can share?

What about flushable wipes. I saw no but everyone and their mom says yes
@jcoutdoorsback4018 күн бұрын
Never!!! I deal with this issue all the time. Just because it says flushable doesn’t mean it should be flushed. Even tissue paper shouldn’t be flushed. You want to show anyone what can and can’t be flushed just put toilet paper in a bowl of water and then any other product and see the difference.
@oldscratch353518 күн бұрын
No. My grandma learned that one the hard way.

Flushable wipes are not good to flush, I would say only toilet paper
@TryPuttingItInRice18 күн бұрын
Every plumber on social media I've seen talk about wipes, even if it says flushable, say to stay away from them. I guess they're not regulated on what they can put on the packaging and realized they can advertise "flushable."

Thank you as always for a very good video. I was able to convert 2 of these lights with your help. I presume that the red and blue wire connections inside the light can, go to either the white or black wires. I admit to leaving the flashlight in the loft and having to remove the can again!!! The main problem I experienced, was gaining access to the fixture mounted directly over a bath, my stepladder was too wide to fit inside the tub, a narrower 2 step option still left a full stretch, access is everything! I enjoy your encouraging videos, as a 'hobby handyman' here is SO CAL I am taking on a bigger variety of jobs now.

There is a stigma associated to the word "handyman" Personally I don't like the word. Because you do get hacks out there giving it a bad name. People do search for handyman more than any other word when it comes to minor home repairs. But if you own a website and use SEO. I don't think that is a problem as keywords will be embedded/linked to your website and will show up in keyword searches such as handyman. Am I correct? I am in the research stage of starting a handyman business. Choosing a name is tough. You want a catchy name. I have ______ Home services llc or Home repair llc. I like services because that is what I want to offer. I want to offer services like pressure washing, yard service etc. and I think that goes beyond Handyman In general. Always can advertise Handyman work. That is what advertising is all about. Letting the customer now what services you provide. I say go with a name you like and in some way associated to the type of services you offer. Good content Allen you are certainly bringing respect back to the word handyman!
