The mention of ancestral anger of the opium wars is something I can relate to. Growing up in the US and learning about Asian history from the "victors" point of view has always frustrated me. My mom would tell me about the Chinese side of the US history or would push me to research it myself. I would also try to blend in or conform as much as possible due to racism and not wanting to be excluded because of being different. Now I have been learning that my Korean/Chinese culture is something to embrace and be proud of. And that just taking the racism and keeping my head down is not alright, even with family members.

I think the Poppy war is the best trilogy I've read this year. It's always a plus when you find out the author is a nice person after really enjoying their books.

I just finished the audio series of The Poppy War trilogy and this was one of the best books I've ever read. The characters were everything they were supposed to be given the circumstances. I look forward to her other books and appreciate the time and energy she put into her writing. Sorry to hear about the sexual harassment.
