Your harmony is beautiful , however your version of this song evokes an almost happy and cheerful aura when the song should evoke aura of sadness and depression. I think that in part the reason for this is that you strum the chords instead of finger pick them. Also the song should be sung solo and not by a duet in order to evoke the sorrow of one person who is attempting to recover emotionally from some unspecified tragedy.

I respectfully disagree with this point of view. The song is about persevering through life’s disappointments and sorrows. The narrator of the song explicitly endeavors to “get back in the game” by making connections with other people (“sing[ing] a song with a friend”; “find[ing] that lady … and sit[ting] down by her side”). The song is ultimately of achieving joy and overcoming sorrow.
