I visited Walsall for the first time last year. It's a lovely town, but there are a lot of problems there as covered in this video. The people of Walsall are some of the nicest people that I've ever encountered though. It's a town with a lot of heart that could thrive again.

When I discovered their album completely by accident, I was completely surprised. especially after the band's name. it was the nineties, full of skinhead fascists, and here was such a surprise. They recorded an album with a unique sound, in a unique band. and they turned out to be left-wing, which also surprised me. To this day they are one of my favorite bands. They gave their all and had a message for the listeners. and it is still very good today. It's a pity there's only one album. maybe one, but unique

This interview shows what a nice, modest bloke Martin is. I saw The Redskins three or four times in the eighties and loved their attitude and their music. I wasn't a socialist then and I'm even less so now, but their album 'Neither Washington Nor Moscow' was, and still is, a regular listen for me. Their commitment to their cause was impressive and unwavering, but Chris Dean was complicated, too single-minded and often, unnecessarily provocative, so they weren't a regular on TV or the radio, had personnel problems and inevitably, split too soon. Even so, if they were around today in our currently divided society, I reckon they'd go down a storm!

I'm obviously coming very late to this discussion but having spent a good couple months in close contact with Chris, Martin and Paul while co-producing Neither Washington Nor Moscow I detect some revisionist history here. While Martin is correct that all three members contributed to the "success" of the band I don't think that Chris Dean's contributions can be overstated. Chris wrote and sang the songs. He was the most effective spokesman for the band and while perhaps being somewhat self absorbed he was a powerful presence and was central to the essense of the band. Warts and all. What few people experienced was the band's sense of humor. They were enjoying their moment in the sun. After all these decades and a lifetime of experiences Chris still crosses my mind often.

That must have been great would have loved to have been there, at times anyway, as I'm sure it was all a massive ball ache at certain creative points, especially if chris was the main man. Did lyrics of KOKO change when Chris aimed it at the miners strike? I have the single the demo or epilogue or something similar, very different to released single is this truly the I initial demo of the song..where was album recorded? Thanks kevin

Also if you have any memorabilia from the studio recordings etc however small or insignificant you could bear to part with I would love it even if it was something like a pen or pencil that might have been used etc.

It wasn't council funding that built the town of a 100 trades, it was enterprise. Council and government funding isn't the answer, begging in fact is not the answer. Learning to have your own initiative is the cure and that's whats lacking and has caused the poverty. A nation always needing a government to do stuff or get free stuff. I'm from Walsall and I used to see shame when peole claimed benefits from the gov now its seen as normal. Labour destroyed the Black Country, destroyed its work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, now folk just blame and beg. See for yourself.

I have removed the transphobic comments, but repost this response with apologies for the delay in dealing with this. The rights of the trans community is not up for debate here and transphobic comments will be removed and posters blocked. "Trans rights are human rights, and in no way would ever impede on the rights of women (or men for that matter) because trans men are men and trans women are women. They only seek to enlighten and broaden the rights already in place for the two recognized genders for those who have chosen to undergo transgender transformations, and in no way take away from the rights that both genders already have as a privilege" (all comments held for review on this video)

Absolutely brilliant tribute, thank you so much for creating and posting this! The band deserved nothing less of course. The commentary is spot on talking about the band's passion - they had so much energy live that if you'd hooked them up to the National Grid you could probably run London for a week! But their lyrics are as timeless as their music, everything they say in those interviews is so relevant today. A legendary band, I realise now how privileged I was to have been able to see them play live. Genius.
