I think January this year - one of the weekends we had a fairly strong warm event that lead to corn like snow on south facing slopes.

Yeah you were right about the big black rock you were looking for @@barronernst. But at one point you both slid underneath a rock where you should have gone over to follow the traverse a little bit further towards that rock. Than the skis on the backpack or sholder for the short climb towards the terras where you put the skis back on. Continue for a little bit on the south face till you are on the ridge above Chassoure. Pass the gastank on your way, and a little further you have the entry into la Banane-la Mouche or if you continue to follow the ridge up for the line into super Mouche-Gentianes. What you did on the video was the descent from Mt. Gele towards Chassoure liftstation.

Done that from the front and the back (Pas de Chevre). Les Grands Montets is all about the super-steep moguls, so either I'm totally losing it at 52 or you're completely lost. Anyhow, I'm mostly growing a moustache for sport these days so don't mind me. :)
@barronernst6 ай бұрын
Not sure why you think we're lost? This was probably my 5-6th time skiing from the top of Grand Montets down to Argentiere Glacier. This was a variant by the rock that was new for me, but also because there was some decent snow hidden in there. We ended up on Argentiere glacier and one of the members of our crew would not have done well with the longer exit couloirs farther down. All said, thanks for watching the video - just wondering why you thought that? Pas de Chevre is a great descent as well!
@tommyduk17796 ай бұрын

How many pairs of skiis you have? Looks like green one are easier to manage?!
@barronernst7 ай бұрын
3 main pairs and 1 crappy pair for early season at resorts. The green ones (Navis) are really good for corn and my lightest setup. They are easy to handle but they also get thrown around a lot in chop. The blue/red ones are definitely chargers even though it's a touring ski (Moment Deathwish). That's probably my favorite pair of skis, but these videos are when I just got them so I definitely had a few moments when I was still understanding that ski - as I skied them more I definitely learned how to handle them significantly better. Last are my soul 7s, which are more of of the resort setup now, but I have shifts on them because sometimes they are fun to take out in to the backcountry as well.

How do you get the camera shots from above your helmet, apparently with the camera detached?
@barronernst7 ай бұрын
There is an attachment insta360 offers to attach to the backpack. In my case, I had it attached to the selfie stick, and secured in my backpack basically so that it was over my shoulder. This only was discovered because the helmet mount sticker fell off and I was experimenting until I got another helmet sticker on there. But it created some interesting opportunities.

They just need to get the gondola to the top rebuilt. For now, touring is the only way to get up here, but in a weird way, that keeps the crowds away. I've done it both ways, and I sort of prefer having to tour to get to the top.
