This is like Woodstock. Was I there or was I NOT there? I mean, I am pretty certain me and a friend, in separate places, watched this match on TV as it happened, however I am no longer 100% certain.

Consider that he also played the heart of his career with a repurposed tree branch , sheep gut for strings and cowhide for a grip. Try that combo for five sets in 100 deg heat and high humidity . GOAT , Rodney George Laver is on the list for more 50 years....That's pretty great.

It takes a great player to win one of the big 4 tournaments. To win the Grand Slam, all 4 in 1 year is an amazing achievement. Laver did it twice. No other male player has achieved that.

Yes world number 1 points ranking process is bullshit... WHO ELSE THINKS THAT? If you don't lemme explain.......... Even after winning indian wells, french open and Wimbledon.. Carlitos was only a few points away from zverev.. how's that? .. on the either hand ... the reason I think Rafael Nadal is only 209 weeks as number 1... cz he had to pull out of 19 grand slams in total in his career so far... as champion you have to defend your points ... but you lose 2500 points by default if you don't play.. and you don't get the chance to win them back post recovery... and that's why 4-5 yeats of points of Nadal gone without getting the chance to defend them... while even defending points has it's its inconsistencies.. SA seen by zverev and Carlos points this season... bcz a lot of top players don't even play 250 tournaments... plus points are only considered from your too 19 best results... the rest of the tournament does not count.. so what if a player plays 20 tournaments and a player plays 50.... in this case.. points can be monopolized in certain tournaments with which you can get ahead of the rankings.. something which Federer used to do winning Halle and queens after losing to Nadal on clay masters and Djokovic on had masters consistently ... so I just like prize money distribution... tennis has huugggeee inconsistency in how it counts ATp points . ATP points should be counted as fresh every year from zero.. depending of the amounts of title won and counting finals and semi finals only ...as ponts defeating top 10 players is a bullshit concept..bcz in many tournaments lower ranked players defeat top 10 players to advance forward m. Doe's mean the the tennis quality in the tournament has reduced in the finals ... it just means that specific top 10 players in that tournament wasn't good enough..and we should respect those victory of lower ranked players with true sporting spirit ..so points must be also be based on rounds and level of play...not not beating ranked players ....

Thats all well and good but we dont have data on courts from decades ago to compare changes over time to address claims such as "surface homogenisation".

I do not think the part that "heavy top spin on clay will grip the surface (sooner?) and bring the ball in an upward trajectory is correct. The topspin actually works better because of the higher friction. The reason it bounces higher is the coefficient of restitution is higher and because the higher friction actually slows the ball (as you correctly mentionned) converting it in topspin. That said, if the ball bounce with less X speed and same Y speed, the bounce will be higher, but its not because of the original topspin
