The adjustment seems fine. The line is at 2-3 mm. It comes from factory with paint marks on the nuts and nothing has become loose. The little play when you pull down on them is hard to show on a video. You can feel some movement up and down. I am confused because the Subaru mechanic recommended to change them but it does not make any sense that they would be already worn out. I guess I’ll keep using the car and monitor if they get looser over time. I guess my that mechanic is somewhat overzealous.

Hey thanks for this video. I have a S209 since 2019. I have about 3500 miles on the car and I tracked the car 4-5 times so far. My flexible draw stiffener have become loose. I will try to readjust them using the technique you are describing. The dealer wanted to replaced them completely but I cannot believe that they are already broken. Will see

What exactly do they do? Like, why not just a strut tower brace instead? Did u notice any difference in handling? Or, if anyone else knows?
@jazzblaster
@jazzblaster 7 ай бұрын
They make the car feel snappier from the front. You can add the strut tower brace, in addition to these. I have the STi flexible strut tower brace to complement these. They are flexible so they keep the car comfortable because they aren’t stiff when the car is absorbing vertical forces but they are stiff with lateral forces. The steering feels a bit lighter after installing these.

It is a subtle but noticeable difference. The back of the car feels a bit snappier when turning and especially when changing lanes. By themselves, these flexible draw stiffeners don’t make a lot of difference, but together as a whole, the difference is noticeable. I like them because the ride is still soft when it needs to be and it’s responsive when it needs to as well.

How does this feel compared to not having it installed?
@jazzblaster
@jazzblaster Жыл бұрын
If you only have this part the car will feel a little unbalanced when changing lanes. The front will be slow and then the rear of the car will suddenly snap in place. It’s subtle but I definitely felt it. After installing a lot of the STI suspension goodies, the car feels more balanced since all of the parts are meant to work together. Because I installed each part individually, I felt little subtle changes in the car with each part. It’d be interesting to drive a completely stock suspension STI and see how it used to be.

@@jeremiahserna7355 The S209 doesn’t have this, it’s marketed for the VB but it will bolt right up if you don’t have an OEM underspoiler. The trunk stiffener should be enough but I think for the VB, they didn’t want it in the trunk, for some reason. If you have the money, I’d get it (although I’m an obsessive completionist) but it isn’t necessary if you have everything else, I’d say. I noticed a difference but it was the first piece I put on besides the strut bar. With all of your current upgrades you might feel it a little less.

Would be interested in your feedback, since I'm considering doing all these flexible parts also. Just have the STI Flexible tower so far personally and wondering if it's worth getting all these. By the way, regarding the Japan vs S209 manual...I wonder if it has to do with what side the steering wheel is on? Maybe on USDM cars you put it reverse like S209? @jazzblaster
@jazzblaster Жыл бұрын
Hey! Thanks, dude! So far, it’s been easy to medium difficulty, I’d say. I’m no mechanic, though so it is definitely doable. Check out my parts list in the description. I’ve installed everything myself so far. You just need the right tools is all. The hardest install was the rear shifter bushing, which I don’t have a video on. I have the lateral link set already, with the trailing arms, trailing arm bushings, endlink bushings, and STi Bilsteins on the way. I’m considering having a shop do those all at once since I don’t have the tools to install them. I don’t have race ramps to put weight on the car before torquing everything down and I don’t think I want to buy them just to do this one install. I also don’t have tools to remove bushings or tools to compress springs for the Bilstein install. I’ll also need an alignment after installing them so I can have the shop knock that out too.
@tuwuRx
@tuwuRx Жыл бұрын
@@jazzblaster I'm in the same boat. I'm not a mechanic either and most of the time prefer to pay someone to do it for me even though I can do a lot of the stuff myself... Plus I have zero tools so I have to account for that stuff as well. Either way, it's nice to see a fellow purist-type for the STI. The only thing I'm thinking about changing with the setup is getting a slightly lower ride height and some road comfort (which I know is couterintuitive) cuz let's be real-- our cars don't handle bumps well which feels bad for a daily lol
@jazzblaster
@jazzblaster Жыл бұрын
@@tuwuRx A ratchet set, a jack, and some jack stands will allow you to do most jobs. As far as the ride height, the OEM Bilstein and pink spring combo lower the car a bit and they are also more comfortable while improving handling too. Most people will tell you they’re not worth the money and that you can get better aftermarket options for the money. I’d prefer to stay OEM though.

Haha, thanks! It’s going to take a while to reach it’s final form. But, yeah, the front strut tower bar was the first suspension piece I installed, before I was making videos. My build list is in the description. I think I only need to install the front draw stiffeners, rear subframe brace with stoppers and extended bolts, Dampmatic 2’s with corresponding pink springs, lateral link set, trailing arms, front stabilizer link bushings, and front swaybar bushings to finish out the suspension. I also know there are a few different STi sway bars so I may do that as well. Hopefully, I’ll finish out the suspension this year before the Fall. The wheels and brakes are going to take a lot of hard work to earn but I’ll make it happen!

Thanks for the info and compliment! Yeah, there is a subtle but noticeable difference with each part install. You’d think that it’d be more noticeable during 90 degree turns but you can feel the difference when changing lanes. After I installed the bumper and trunk draw stiffeners, I definitely felt the rear was snappier and responsive. It even seemed like the front was lagging in responsiveness to the rear. These supprt pieces seemed to have helped a bit to balance out the car. I also have the strut tower bar in the front as well, I just didn’t do a video for it.
