I've noted on watching back that there are some instances where the audio skips for a microsecond on some of the Ilfracombe videos. All these videos and sounds were recorded in extremely windy conditions, and I had to locate areas where the wind wasn't so violent to record sounds. These little "blips" in the audio are sudden, very strong blasts of air getting through to the microphones. Wind protection can only go so far, and these blasts sadly caused some minor blips here and there. the fact that I could get anything at this location in these conditions was nothing short of miraculous, so I'll take those little blips with a pinch of salt.

The LS-P5 is great though too, with improved functionality over the 2 and mics etc. To be honest, if I was just looking for a small, affordable pocket recorder - I’d probably opt for the Zoom H1 Essential. For the price, it’s totally worth it. Currently there’s no other 32-bit recorder option that is this small with inbuilt microphones (that I know of) for under 100 pounds. @EQAVOXАй бұрын
@@glhf1 hey 👋 glad you enjoyed the video cheers. I think in terms of something you can just have in a pocket or bag and get out quickly to record sounds, the Sony A10 is easily the best. It’s one of the smallest out there, smaller than the om systems LS-P5, and I take it out and about a lot when I don’t want to be messing around with anything. The Roland R07 is a great option too, but it’s a bit larger than the Sony A10. Another one worth considering is Zooms latest offering - the Zoom H1 Essential. It’s small, pocketable, 32-bit float and really easy to use. It’s also considerably cheaper than the Sony A10 and easily competes in terms of sound quality to the A10 (at least to my ear 👂). I think sound quality is totally subjective, some may prefer the sound of the A10 and some may prefer the Zoom H1E, whilst others may prefer the LS-P5 - it totally depends on what you prefer the sound of. Something to note with the A10 tbh ough is that you can change the positioning of the mics which is really cool, that’s a feature the zoom H1E, LS-P5 or Roland R07 don’t offer and it is nice to have sometimes. Hope this helps, I may have just made things worse and added more options into the mix though haha. 😝

@@EQAVOX haha no, this is very helpful. Sadly some of the best options I saw in your other video just aren't available (or astronimical prices). Cant really find the details of a sound recording range comparison between lsp1 and h1e. But I think I'm into the metal build:) The research rabbit hole continues lol. This recorder has gotten some flack since it was released. Low build quality, low quality pre-amps, susseptable to plosives etc etc. However as a field recorder it's great. I want a recorder that I can just pull out of my pocket at a moments notice and get a certain sound for 'Folie'. So as in this video. A passing train. A stream. or just the wild track of ambient audio. This fit that particular bill very neatly. No need to set a level as the 32 bit float takes that out of the equation. It's compact enough to go in the pocket so that's that box ticked and with a fury wind shield on top the wind and plosives are a none issue. The pre-amps as you heard here for field recording purposes are fine, are the good enough to use say in a professional recording studio recording a singer, probably not, but for this they are just fine. The build quality is only an issue if it had any decent weight to it but it's super light weight so that isn't an issue either. The price is what seals the deal. It's super cheap go get one.

Just the info I was looking for; thank you for this video! I have a Tascam X6 and bought a Bumblebee windcover. It is really well made and feels high quality. However, the windcover is not very effective on the X6. I think it is due to the fact that the internal fabric is touching the mics. So I'm looking for another and better solution. What Radius model do you have on the X6 and is the internal fabric touching the mics?
@EQAVOX2 ай бұрын
Hi mate. Glad I could help. I have the Bubblebee one too and had the same issue. The Radius one is definitely better in this respect of the two. It has foam inside the deadbeat that helps with further wind blockage. I think it's difficult to get recordings with the mics facing outwards in windy conditions because they are near the edge of pretty much all wind protectors. However, I've had better results in that configuration with the Radius windshield - It doesn't touch the mics and there's a fair amount of room there for dead air without the windshield being ridiculously large too. I have the following one. I sent my Tascam X6 off to them to help ensure it was a good fit and I think they've done a brilliant job. @EQAVOX2 ай бұрын
@@Panzer_the_Merganserthat’s really sad to hear. To be honest the mental health services here in the UK are stretched way beyond capacity too. Sadly, there’s only so much that can be done and there’s not enough support to go around. Granted, you can get private therapy - but that’s not always possible or cost effective for people. If you need some help and are relying on our national health service, you will be failed abysmally. This is why these support group charities are so critical, we need something that fills that gap between professional help, professional paid help and just a chat with a friend where people can feel supported in a group setting regardless of their background or financial situation. There needs to be much more of what the offer the world over. Hopefully in time these ideas will expand internationally, but I think it needs to happen sooner rather than later - there’s a global mental health crisis currently and governments in all countries seem to be unwilling to invest in mental health support so I think it’s up to individuals and charities to make that change. It shouldn’t be, but it is the way it is. I’d gladly pay more tax each year if it was going to supporting mental health charities and our national health service and I suspect many would agree too. Things do need to change all over the world and mental health needs to start being prioritised.

@@EQAVOX I agree on all counts, mental health is greatly in decline all over the world, and I think governments either cannot keep up or cannot fathom a solution. I stepped away from a meaningless career to get outside as much as possible and volunteer helping others see the impact they can make on restoring/preserving natural places, and you can see the joy come back in their faces after just a few hours of hard work in the sun, heat, cold, rain. I’ve found that clipping them to a bag or rucksack can be good. You just want to make sure that nothing is rattling on it like zippers etc. Ive occasionally clipped them onto my rucksack, had it on my back with the mics clipped on and walked with the microphones facing behind me and a recorder in the bag. @@HpBeck_Fieldrecordings thank you 🙏 really glad you enjoyed it. The beach is often a bit of a challenge to do successfully. It’s taken a lot of practice over the years and trial and error haha 😝

Sonny Lives! ❤ Looks and sounds beautiful man.... There's a special place that I sit by the river with my Wolfies... There's also a "science" to it... Water over rocks produces "negative ions" which affects us... 🙏 Sonny Day indeed.
