I gave the bass bar an initial tension in this one and tuned the sympathetic strings lower. Maybe that's the reason...

Interesting! So... the lowest note goes on the first tuning peg? I mean, the highes string is closer to the chest of the player? What would you consider to be the most "standard" tuning for a 4 string vielle?
@mstibs1
@mstibs1 4 ай бұрын
Well, this video is of a left-handed instrument (and since I'm completely right handed, I can't play it) ;-). So bass bar and sound post and stringing is mirrored to a standard instrument. That's why the strange string order. A "standard" tuning would be today's standard tuning, depending on the size, G-D-A-E (violin) or C-G-D-A (viola).

Does it matter fundamentally when the body of a musical instrument is glued together from different parts or made from a single piece?
@mstibs1
@mstibs1 4 ай бұрын
There exist scientific vibration tests for Nyckelharpas as far as I know. Result: With monoxylic (single or few pieces of wood) built instruments the whole instrument vibrates, glued together - soundboard and bottom (connected by sound post) vibrate mostly. Either way, both sound usually great and with my untrained ears I can't hear much difference.

Hi mate!! Nice tagelharpa. Nice played! But have in mind that if you go for a G A D tuning its more suitable to play 2 strings at a time. If you want to play the traditional way with bowing all strings at same time I would recomend D A D tuning.

Hello and thank you for sharing. For me the instrument sounds as if it is slightly out of tune or not intonating very precisely. Am I wrong or is this unfinished? I heard someone play a moraharpa from you and it was crystal clear intonation. Thank you for your trouble.

I love the set up and mood in this video Michael, very nice. I've watched a lot of your other videos and you have amazing creativity with how you build your instruments. I really think the nyckelharpa and its relatives do not get the attention they deserve. I would love to write music for them one day.
