I really like this dojo, with all the mats on the walls, makes for feasible training even when alone.

I'm only just starting but I've tried osoto gari like 20 times in randori and each time I've ended up on my back. Watching the reversal, watching the kuzushi, I think this is really helpful

Do this with uchikomi bands into a punch bag
@paultaylor1073 ай бұрын
As in the bands around the bag?
@ianyoung83923 ай бұрын
@@paultaylor107 uchikomi bands attached to a wall. You face the bag and strike it as you spin in with a shoulder, hip or whatever you want to make a strong contact against. So instead of pushing into the wall you can power through it. Replace the wall with a heavy hanging bag so you can feel the resistance and mass your throwing forwards against. He's using his hands to feel the leverage and push from his hips but you could do the same pushing through the bag to complete the movement.

@@paultaylor107 I just had another thought. Maybe adding some resistance bands to the bag so it springs back towards you would be a great idea. In a permanent dojo setting maybe a dummy screwed into the floor with a spring like a makiwara can be a spring board could be the most ideal situation. However in summary. If you're holding resistance bands then you're feeling the taisabaki through your body. If you add resistance bands to the dummy from the same direction you've attached the other resistance bands the bag will have weight and spring against you or back again . If you had a heavy bag with a liquid and skeleton in the middle you would have to work harder on how you centre yourself on the weight centre/distribution. I really hope that Judo training produces advances in technology and coaching. Which is what I am trying to do with my PhD in Judo as meditation therapy in physical education, self defence and mental/societal training.

Hi sensei Can o goshi works against much heavier opponent? If yes how? In sumo a smaller rikisi often wins by hip throw done like o goshi but hitting half hip of the opponent Thanks
@aberdeenjudobritishcolumbi56356 жыл бұрын
Hello, Mirko! First of all, I don’t recommend a smaller tori attempting a ‘lifting’ technique on a much bigger uke,. . . If the smaller tori is proficient in application of O-goshi, and insists on using it, then the first part is as described by Sean in the video is to get the uke moving with the ‘moving step-pattern’ as opposed to a ‘static-entry’, and then do a ‘half-hip’ entry as you suggest. This may be considered somewhat of an Uki-goshi. Bottom line, not the best choice of a waza to be utilized on a much bigger uke!
