Tried Jiu Jitsu for the first time 2 days ago. The feeling of being out of breath and just having another grown adult laying across my abdomen was probably one of the most uncomfortable physical feelings I've ever had. At one point I had to tap just to get a breath while the other guy was a black belt just patiently laying in side control.

I had exactly the same experience! In my first time after 15 years to training, I had to tap just to get a breath when the guy on the 100kg position and I´ve ever had breathe wrong for 4-5min. Perfect advise, do not focus on techniques, but in breathe and "body notion".

Oh it's the worst feeling ever. I used to tap to it all the time but I'm making a conscious effort not to anymore. Like whatever I do, I tell myself to NOT tap to pressure. But while I'm trying not to I can feel myself starting to panic, so much so that after they let up I can't defend against the submission they go for. So now my next goal is to stay calm while being out of breath lol

I got stacked last week by a young white belt (very aggressive) 100 lbs heavier than me and I'm 185 6'2" he put all his weight into me as I threw up a triangle and I heard something crack on my lower back. I'm still hurting a week later but I don't have numbness, etc. I feel it but not as bad as the first second and third days afterwards.

Exactly. Improper execution comes from inflexibility. Breathing is a huge part of flexibility and brain body communication. The diaphragm is one of the most crucial core muscles.

Not an armbar, he only had your head, and with both legs? If he got around your torso your done and you know that. Be real. If it's and armbar you would go to the opposite direction that you did, if it goes flat on the ground, point your thumb to the side and roll towards it. Im not even the pro here.

Would you say the mirroring principle is similar to the push pull theory from judo?
@WimDeputterBJJ
@WimDeputterBJJ 2 ай бұрын
It's a bit deeper than that :) Push pull is in two dimensions. The mirroring principle works in four planes of motion + the breathing aspect. It is hard to explain in words, very easy to make someone full. I can tell you this however. I believe at it's core, Jiu Jitsu is very simple. You only have to look for two things: -Controlling the opponent's rotation (most important) -Having more weight on your opponent than he on you The mirroring principle is what allows you to do that. Everybody does it to some extent, wheter you understand it or not. A submission is nothing more than controlling the rotation of a joint while controlling the opposite rotation of the body.

Why locking the triangle on the other side? It is much tighter the other way around. That’s why another guy asked you in the thread about reverse triangle, but it’s just that you locked your legs on the other side (around the head and neck, not around the armpit on another side). It is good for control, but choking is limited compared to traditional, don’t you agree? I Usually switch afterwards (using mirroring principle for best timing btw), won one of the matches on my last competition that way, but I’m not grappling on the same level as you, so I’m wandering if I’m missing something
