Between the cliff and the sea! Beaches are not static and need constantly refreshing from the hinterland which will not happen once blocked by buildings. A standard winter storm on the UK coast would wipe these communities out. The seas must be very benign and forgiving in these areas to allow these places to survive at all.

You can bulldoze tons of rock onto that shoreline every year but that ocean just keeps coming, just as it has for millions of years. And with sea levels rising because of glacial melting, the situation will accelerate. There's nothing we can do other than move further from the shoreline.

Everytime they build a jetty , they disrupt the natural ocean currents and the beaches erode . By blocking all the streams & rivers and mining all the sand the beaches are never replenished with new sand .

Climate Change and rising sea levels will make coastal properties and low lying areas impossible to sell or insure. Banks and insurance companies will not want to take the risk in the future. People will not be able to sell coastal properties if no one can get a loan or insurance. Migration will move people away from coastal and low lying areas. Covid deniers and climate change deniers are the same. Both do not believe in science and experts. People are selfish and don't want to be bothered with restrictions. The cost to the economy and individuals will be huge.We need Climate Action NOW.

If you build on the beach the sea will erode the beach and your home will be in danger. If you want to build near the ocean make sure you have a rock or granite foundation.

@@allgoo1990 so the cliffs have been there just waiting to be eroded with in the last 15 years? Hummm I wonder how those cliffs were 1st formed? Maybe not enough rain to wash new sand down the canyons to the shore to make a beach for the waves to crash on instead of the cliffs. Maybe they should order a whole sand trucks to dump down there to build the beach back better.
