I'm curious about the specifications of glass lenses. How are they made, and what are their sizes and shapes? or where did you buy it?

1)I have a few questions If this has to be used in real life applications why would people use this since it is expensive compared to other things like solar panels or led lights and how many of them would it take to give the same brightness of led lights 2) how many of these would it take to light up a 9watt bulb or any other kind of bulbs 3)what about the fire hazard of using it in real life
@3DIYCaptain
@3DIYCaptain 5 ай бұрын
1/ this solution might not be too expensive if a lot of sun collector were made, I’m thinking of providing a kit soon, and there is practically no aging component. Regarding the number, I don’t know, depends on what you are looking for. 2/ I don’t know 3/ there is a fire hazard, and that’s the tricky part of this project. I made another video where I started a fire using an optical fiber ! Check it on my channel ;)

Great idea, and smart coupling realisation ! What about the heat at the collimation point, and the fiber's heat absorbtion, though ?
@3DIYCaptain
@3DIYCaptain 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for your message ! The collimation will heat, but using a silica based fiber is not a problem, the fusion point of silica is high, and for small lenses no worry. Heat is excitation of particule by light (or other). And fiber are made to conduct light ( even very power full one like laser) so inside the fiber, using small lenses, I don’t think it’s a problem, but that’s my thinking, someone should look more closely at the theory a some point

That’s a really good question and I don’t the answer … yet … you need to have the collecting surface and to know the optical losses of your collector (lenses, coupling efficiency with the fiber, propagation loss, what are you using at the output of the fiber …). I hope to get those information one day …
