Ha. Ha. Ha. Actually He isn't saying anything new. He is actually trying to say that the problem is that we are not paying attention to our minds. All he wants to say is that Muslims should improve their minds and this will solve all of their problems, whether that be political or economical. The epic is is that Sufis were delivering this solution for centuries. He is not new. But, an important thing to remember is that, he is actually discouraging Muslims to differentiate between being ruled by foreign power and by Muslims while advocating for Sufism . In this way he is partially working for Imperial power, consciously or unconsciously. And this is the cause of his acceptance in Cambridge.

I would call it trappings rather than symbols since symbolism and metaphors are a very important tool our prophets used to make their teachings timeless.

Fear and Hope in Allah. This is all that matters in the end brothers&sisters. May Allah keep us on the straight path.. its not easy sometimes =(

Hajj is full of connections to Pre-Islamic history and it is not local but a world wide event. It is neither a retreat nor a mere tour of the Islamic holy places. It is a time bound event at specific places within and at specific times. Makka has a harsh environment and Allah specifically selected this place for Ibraheem (as) and his progeny in order to make them a tough nation. One needs sabr to survive in such a harsh place. Thus Allah swt has filled the place of Haj with sabr, evident even in its main tree and animal - the date palm and the camel. One cannot exist in the place of Haj without sabr. The people chosen to live there are connected to Allah and cannot survive without the trait of sabr. On goes to Hajj to connect to Prophet Ibraheem (as) and learn sabr.

Language of the Quran All the stories and things mentioned in the Quran, we should get acquainted with history as well to understand its context. Some facts & theories: -29 Arabic letters -Some stand alone letters appeared in the Quran which had never been used before and many of the still remain a mystery. -They are 14 of them are "Haroof Muqatta'at" [ Alif, Haa, Raw, Seen, Saud, Taa, 3aen, Lam, Qaf, kaf, Laam, Meem, Nun, Ha, Ya] -They are half of the arabic letters. -Also, they belong to phonetic groups. -So, it so happens that these 14 letters (combination) appear 29 times, mostly in the second half of the Quran. -When arabic letters used to be in the shape of something. -The letter "Alif" ~ written in the shape of the head of a cow -The letter "Baa" ~ written in the shape of a house; like bait -The letter "Nun" ~ means a fish {referencing story of Nuh (a)} as they were also known as the people of the fish/ Nuh (a) a.k.a the man of the fish. -The letter "T^a" ~ written in the shape of a snake {referencing story of Musa (a)}

I dreamt that as I opened a copy of Quraan the pages were blank, nothing written in it. If we will not follow Quraan God will take His word back like He took away His Torah, Bible and all the other scriptures from every part of the world. The reason for all the organizations and movements of Islam is to bring Quraan to live while we Muslims leave Quraan aside and follow the cultures as the sheikh says symbols of the groups.
