The problem with the Japanese voice’s laugh is that it feels generic. The reason the English one works so well is because of how bombastic and sadistic it sounds, fitting Mephiles’s psychotic tone, while the Japanese one sounds bored. Oh well, still a great villain laugh.

Their standards for what did and didn't need to be edited is really weird. I can think of way darker stuff that was left intact, like Bushroot getting run over by a lawnmower, which to my knowledge hasn't ever been tampered with, but this? This just had to be edited for some reason? (I guess technically the episode 3 example had to be left in for plot reasons, but I still think it shows how inconsistent they are with what constitutes as "too dark")

Takayuki has the right idea in sounding like a madman given who mephiles is but it comes off as more deranged rather then sinister, and it also ends too early and and slow paced. Dan on the other hand keeps the laugh ascending every second and extends it longer making it sound truely sinister, like someone who has succeeded at bringing an end to a hero and a symbol of hope. Small note i dont know if this is just how the scene is or how this video edited it, but it is much mor impactful for sonic hand to fall right when the choir stops singing in the english version
