Why not just use a mini skid? One guy could do the whole job in a few days by himself.

This is so awesome to see! We have a house that is 150 years old with a huge basement. The ceiling is only about 6 feet, so we wanted to have it dug out and finish it for extra bedrooms/ workout room. It is d,o this or completely remove our roof and rebuild it with higher walls to finish the attic... I think this will be the better choice. I haven't seen one with a large basement yet...So it can be done!

At this rate my basement would cost around 558,000 for an additional 1800 sq feet….. there is no investment opportunity there. I would just be loosing a ton of money

Coming in in 2025, wanting to thank you. I've been wondering how they turn a crawlspace into a basement.

Ill never understand why people do this and don't remove all supporting posts while doing it. Throwing a steel beam or LVL to carry the load would be worth when spending this amount of money and time on a project. Otherwise looks great though, I may have to do this one day as all the houses in our area have short basements and we don't want to leave the area, but likely want a new house eventually.

Great job guys! I just finished a total basement dig out and full replacement of the foundation on an 1870s Victorian house above. Just like you guys we opted to do it by hand just because of the space limitations and for safety. This project was done section by section with lots of temp support walls. All in all, took 4 guys plus myself about 5 months (didn't work every single day at this, needed break time to rest our backs) to completely digout and replace all foundations under a 2,200 sq ft home. A big tip to anyone considering this, dig it out DEEP! Don't cheap out, keep digging. You'll regret having low ceilings in the future otherwise 😂

This is great! I live in the north east and have 70 year old house that the previous owner added an additional two bedrooms over a crawl space addition to the house. I had some work done before under it and it was difficult and want to dig out as well as the all season room that was added without a crawl space. I really like the all season room (it has sky lights and large windows looking into the backyard. Everyone talks about how expensive it would be to dig out from underneath and add a basement for the kitchen I want to turn it into eventually. I also don't think there are too many contractors that would do that here. I want to preserve these skylights and existing build, but feel stuck! This graphic makes it seem possible. Wish I could get a good advice on which is the best route to create the house I want.

Someone local to me had a nice old home with no basement and a deep backyard. They dug and poured a new basement foundation right behind the house and slid the house on top of the new foundation. Primary reason for this method was the road was being widened and they didn't want the house so close to the new sidewalk. Not sure if that's and easier or less expensive way, but they had it done in less than a month.

Scaremongering. They don’t know anymore details than the next Joe on the street. More than likely part of the existing foundation was already compromised and not noticed when excavation began. The contractor might have been perfectly competent but unaware of the compromised section which clearly collapsed when excavation started. The likely scenario is that particular neighborhood had gone through a major downturn and many were torn down before it started regentrifying. It’s likely the tear down of houses immediately adjacent to that one compromised its foundation.
@GoldsConcrete25 күн бұрын
We usually have a foundation inspected and excavation plans drawn up by engineers before we even begin and haven't had a failure yet. So that's an interesting theory you got there but doesn't seem to hold water

You can build a whole house including a full basement for less than $310 a sqft 😂

Interesting observation but how does that account for the situation of the individual who is paying to have the work done? I guess you can't...since you don't know what their situation is.

Ok, so it would cost $300K to put a basement under my A-Frame... which is only worth about $60K. So why anybody would covert a crawlspace to a basement rather than tear the whole building down and start from scratch is beyond me. Builiding a new home from scratch would also cost about $300K, and that home would be 50 years newer.

I am looking at buying a 900 square foot house in the NorthWest. Since it is 1BR 1BA, I wondered about raising the house 5 feet and digging out a basement 5 feet. The build is a 1945 and has massive cedar floor timber trusses. What do you think that might look like?
Holy shit your expensive 😳 my foot print is 24x50 thats 1200 sq feet... so $372k!! My house is only worth about 300k and its completely remodeled.
@elhoward7440Ай бұрын
Your math is correct! I'm having a hard time imagining what situation would justify spending that much to put a basement under a house. In most cases, it would make more sense to tear the house down, dig a hole with heavy equipment, and build a bigger house.
@cgschow197127 күн бұрын
@elhoward7440 or if you have room, get a house mover, slide it off the foundation, then go after it with heavy equipment. Only drawback is you might have to move out while this is going on whereas doing it like the video, you can still occupy the house.

Hello! Curious, how much would something like this cost? I understand the range might be wide, but just looking for a ballpark. 5k? 20k? 100k? In my case, I would only want to go dig 1-2 feet down for my pre-existing basement
I have a finished basement under half of my house and I'm interested in digging out the rest of the basement, is that possible?

Ok you put poles to support the house when you remove all the dirt. But if you dig 3’ 5’ feet under the block an footing The wall dirt is going to fall down . And the block wall that supports the house. This is on the beginning of removing all the dirt from the crawl space
How much does something like this cost? I have a 1700 Sq ft house that has a partial basement under one room 350ish square foot and crawl space under the rest. I would love to have a full basement
