Now THIS is one of those tracks that is such an iconic disco number that many shy away from remixing it. Others try & mostly fail. It’s hard to try & top Patrick Cowley. However here’s one that absolutely honours the track. It still has the attack that this track demands. The vocals are given the respect required & haven’t been consumed or buried under FX. There’s even a nice little sample of “Dance Disco Heat” & I suspect some other Sylvester numbers. It absolutely storms along insistent on getting you up dancing to the pounding beats. For the dancers among us it delivers in spades. For the DJ’s it’s an almost 11 minute banger. Sylvester himself would be proud that his legacy continues to be highly regarded, especially in the last few minutes as it gallops towards its conclusion. Joyous work. I want it!

RA2: I found this almost 12:00” version of this on another channel which in turn led me here. This has to be one of THE best mixes of this track using (mostly) the elements from the original classic track. As a retired DJ now living in Spain nothing excites me as much as someone with talent remixing these iconic songs whilst keeping the integrity of the original intact. There’s even a little sample of “I Haven’t Stopped Dancing Yet” by Gonzales in there. Oh how I wish I had a copy of this for my garden disco so I could blast this out next time I’ve got a crowd round. The new FX in this add a freshness that simply adds a bit of spice to this classic track whilst honouring what made it so damn good back in the day. Kudos Aussie DJ - this is 12 minutes of shake ass music.

I could remember this song being played on WBLS 107.5 Saturday Night Mix every Saturday night when I use to record on cassettes back in the day when records wasn't 2 to 2 minutes long like these days.

Another great medley for my tastes. The Boystown Gang medley slips effortlessly between the vocals of Jackson Moore & Cynthia Manley. Of course it includes the best version of “CTMEOY” but has other memorable successes for the Clubbers too such as “Disco Kicks”, “I Just Can’t Help Believing”, “Remember Me/Aint No Mountain”; & even “When Will I See You Again”. Yet again the mix elements faultlessly enhance the original tracks & highlight how great dance music was back in the day. Another noteworthy mix for the Remix Playlist. 👏

Aussie DJ shines again this time by taking a sample of Brooklyn Express’ “Sixty Nine” & a touch of “‘Lectric Funk” but then slides us beautifully into the Voyage classic “Souvenirs”. It’s little touches like this that can just add flavour to these old tracks

This is a track I pushed in the Club I worked at but it wasn’t the UK radio hit it deserved to be. Ironically I think it was more of a Club hit especially with the gay crowds. This mix takes elements from other mixes & blends them almost seamlessly. Around the 4:30 mark there’s a little slide into some slick FX as the melody carries us onwards & Taffy’s vocals are tampered with giving a surreal vibe around the 7:19 point. As the mix cruises towards the final minutes the listener gets a cocktail of elements that are the intoxicating climax of this remixed 80’s track. Another aural delight. 👏

This medley starts with a more modern remix of “GGAWYN”(with the reverb Uh-huh), throws in a sampled string, then hits you with the original vocal mix. I almost screamed I was so delighted. Then I heard the mix slide in those familiar trumpets from “IICRYM” (Studio 54 movie memories). It’s here Aussie DJ stuns with some really exciting elements that simply spice up what was already a favourite Viola track. Next came a fabulous seg into “UOTR”. This brought back memories of my DJing days & wasn’t where I would have expected this track but oh what a joy to hear it included. Personally I’d have loved to have had those delicious strings more to the front, but I did love the extra funky vibe Aussie had given it even if it was a little heavy on the high hat. “IYLMN” comes next. Let’s face it Viola could pretty much cover any hit & give it her own touch. I never really did think her version of Yvonne Elliman’s “LP” was as iconic but nonetheless it still had the VW vibe, & I actually preferred the Aussie DJ treatment better than the original on this occasion. Next up is “TTH” which again boogies with booty more than is legal. It’s here we step up the BPM’s for another one from my DJing era with what appears to sound like a faster version of “SW”. It’s now that you feel Viola is gonna take this whole track to church with it’s gospel vocals. By the time we hit “ICSCN” you understand why the BPM’s have increased & those soaring gospel vocals start to reach for the heavens. Viola seems to be channeling Sylvester & she reminds us we’re all here to just “EY”. This medley is a testament & I’d venture to say a true love letter to the talent that has made Viola Wills such an enduring artist. When people collate their lists for the “Queens Of Disco” don’t forget to include Viola. This medley is pure gold. 🏆 PS: I’m hoping Aussie DJ tackles another Queen of Disco, Bonnie Pointer with “Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch” & “Heaven Must Have Sent You” sometime soon to compliment this piece.

Now to take a track you’re not familiar with but treat it with such respect & love that you honour it with one of the finest remixes just makes me beam with pride. Yes, there are DJ’s & people with talent in the world that can take this 1973 song & stretch it to almost 12 minutes without it once sounding laboured or uninteresting. Maybe that’s down to the subtlety of the joy & vivacious of the original track with its Philly feel, it’s delicious vocals & crisp harmonies, it’s uplifting spirit, or the clever use that DJ Aussie has woven in without ever detracting from what made the original so damn fine. This is another stellar offering that makes these vintage tracks just burst into a dazzling spectacle for your aural delight. THIS is how you keep these wonderful disco tracks alive. Absolutely sterling work fella 👏

This is one of those tracks I admit could easily have slipped from my radar but this Aussie DJ Remix is slick, sultry, sexy & stylish in the extension of the original elements. That intro just throws cool vibes, & even the vocals seem to have been given a fresh breath of air feeling crisper & more intriguing asking “Who were you with in the moonlight?” For once I want to know - much more than I did when the song was released in the 80’s. This mix oozes with charm. Tasty. (Just read your update from Nov 2023 - get well soon & positive thoughts for a healthy recovery. Btw, Another I’d love a copy of).

So here I am having stumbled on Aussie DJ’s mixes. I’ve commented on the “other” posts YT took me to, so now it’s time to check out the real channel. I genuinely feel the mixes I’ve heard so far really honour the original tracks without feeling the need to completely reengineer the tracks components. In fact the new fx tend to be tweaks from the original elements for the main. In this track there’s a delicious “new” vocal requesting that “everybody dance”. Well, consider that request granted as this mix will have everyone who remembers the track (& maybe some new fans) shaking their booty. Great job.
