this performance is so masterful - there's so much warmth but also attention to detail. like the measure leading up to the 8:34 section, it's such a seamless transition that it doesn't even feel like a transition (most recordings i've heard have a very deliberate "ok, now this passage" cue). And the way the sheer SOUND at 16:23 envelops you- I actually sorta like that the recording quality isn't that good bc it makes moments like this feel so much more massive and frenzied (as opposed to the studio recordings which def have a more "controlled" feel)

She is magical. There sure were a lot of background dropping of things. Seems like someone was trying to sabotage her.

Devastating intensity with this one. The piece is already written in such a way for anyone with the capacity to play it, but Pogorelich brings a cataclysmic sound to it I’ve rarely heard.

Nice expression, but its little too fast. The sixteenths are bluring together, thats not how it should be

No doubt about his technique - but he does seem to have forgotten that the piano has a pedal. The score does indicate pedalling. And I found the rubato - slowing down and speeding up - a bit excessive.

I have just discovered this recording. I didn't know that Yunchan Lim ever played this piece. Where was it recorded? It must be live as he's not done it in a studio, but there is no audience noise at all. I'm not sure it's him

The part at 00:09 is cool and all, but other than that I don't know why anyone would prefer the first version over the revised.

At first I was put off by the slow tempo until I saw how well it worked in the middle section. Now I'm going to spend the rest of my life looking for a middle section this slow but that undergoes a completely unhinged stringendo starting from 1:57 and goes Weissenberg levels of ecstasy for the rest of the piece.

The original cadenza wouldn’t make much sense with the revised work, because it uses elements from the original orchestration which Rachmaninov discarded, such as the stepwise four-note quaver descent.

Absolutely not! It is too slow, for someone whose mind is moving as fast as the speed of light, but the fingers and physical implementation is restricted under current physical laws.
