I omitted to say, i found your story fascinating, i loved your originality, and it was fun. Your wife is a keeper for sure, that food looked delicious. Also, although I've hiked numerous trails in Grand Canyon, only a short section on the Tonto, South Kaibab to Bright Angel.

To save injuries to knees/ ankles, it is imperative that you use two hiking poles each. Beneficial for descent/ascent when carrying loads such as you both are. I've used them for forty years on big trails. Now eighty, sadly no more. Oldtimer Englishman reliving past adventures through vids such as yours. Ps., two weeks of training is not enough for hiking Grand Canyon.

@@martinforrester8249 Hi Martin, I agree. I would love to use hiking poles, unfortunately as the camera bearer it would prevent me from doing so. I cradle the camera/tripod the whole trip as can be seen as we were ascending. One of the few times my wife filmed me behind the scenes. Thank you for watching. Appreciate someone take the time to watch our videos.

How did you feel hiking through the beautiful grand canyon? What season did you go, did your knees hurt all that hard way? You maybe felt great, i think you were rejuvenated.Many greetings from Greece.Yet I noticed that you didn't cross any bridges, while other walkers crossed two or three bridges along the way. Why didn't you cross them? 💝💝💝
@FirstHandExplore Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thank you for watching. This is a bucketlist hike. We are glad we did it while we still can. My knees only hurt the first day going downhill with all that weight on my pack. There are no bridges as the Tonto trail goes along the colorado river and not across it. Other videos you watched are probably the RIM to RIM trail which is also great but crowded. If you plan to camp in the Grand Canyon you need to apply for permit. A lot of hikers do the RIM to RIM trail as a day hike to prevent getting camping permit thus it is crowded.

@@FirstHandExplore the Timberline trail was great! I went solo, had perfect weather, the water crossings were difficult and numerous, yet manageable. I was surprised by just how generally hard the trail was though. More elevation gain and loss than I had expected. In terms of difficulty, how would you say the Cirque compares?
@FirstHandExplore Жыл бұрын
@@papertiger795 Cirque of the Towers is not as bad as Timberline. The distance is just half of timberline and elevation gain is about 4000 ft. What we’re worried about is the altitude. We did prepare for it a month physically. We also requested altitude sickness medicine from our doctor. We tried it days before but the effect was it let us pee a lot😆. We ended up not using it unless we need to. All in all it was just exhausting as Timberline due to altitude effect.

@@FirstHandExplore good to know. When I did the Tahoe rim trail, my ears started ringing for an entire day at around 7700ft. I felt miserable for a day or two. The trail eventually went to 10300ft, but by then I was acclimated. I'll have to factor in a day or two at altitude before I start. Like you, I'm a Floridian. My home is at 16ft
