@tempestwing2 gremmy said that but judging from how isane acted and what byakuya said, they weren't dead whatsoever but instead close to death... Byakuya told Mayuri that "you could've let them die" meaning they weren't all the way dead. And judging by their strength they had, it more than likely that Giselle turned them before they die for easier control and mobility.
