that pawn was there for the taking several moves. those are the ones that bite you in the butt in the end game. Novice needs to learn to use the same hand to move and hit the clock too. it's awkward at first but he'll get it.

Because Black can not move his rook to h2 because it is pinned to the king on g2 and once you press the clock your turn is over
