Michael Andretti said it best, he said that F1 cars have such a sophisticated braking system, that you actually can brake a lot later before a turn, and that is harder for US drivers to get. It's a matter of getting the braking down/getting the courage to make such a quick and late attempt at applying the brakes that make F1 cars the quickest cars in the world. Tony probably didn't know this, or he just didn't make the adjustment properly. Otherwise, it was a good showing for both drivers.

Both guys champions in their own right. Jumping in to cars that absolutely cannot be compared. Completely different skillsets required to drive each. It was interesting to see how fluid and smooth tony looked in the f1. F1 drivers typically look very jerky in their inputs.

We gotta put an F1 driver on an oval track. That’s the real test. An F1 driver will always win on a regular racetrack no matter the car, they just understand track driving better. The oval though, that’s nascar’s thing. Let’s get Max on an oval track 😅

I can't believe his comments at 27:25 about how he's getting used to the stick shift. These guys have been driving professionally all their lives. you have to be drunk and high to think that they don't know how to drive stick car well. Robert Kubica burnt the clutch because it was probably stock 😂😂 "he wasn't used to the shit lever." Robert Kubica also drove alot of rally. How is this guy a racing commentator? . Wow

An F1 driver would fare better no comparison. Why? Because Nascar is so much slower. An F1 driver can only be an F1 driver because they can react at the highest racing speeds on the planet. That is the hierarchy of racing. As the cars get faster only certain drivers have the skill to drive them to the cars limit. Anyone who doesn't understand how far ahead an F1 car is above any other vehicle won't understand. The closet to an F1 cars performance is a moto gp bike, even those guys have a steep learning curve just to keep the f1 car tires and brakes warmed up in it's optimal window. Every other racing series on earth is slower than f1, so an F1 driver will be able to see and react to everything easier than they are use to. Essentially every other racing series will feel like slo mo… just watch f1 drivers push road cars to the limit they are barely paying attention since it's so slow for them. Also Nascar has nowhere near the complexity or settings that can be adjusted on even an F1 steering wheel on the fly. Literally 100's in car setup changes can be made through an F1 car wheel. Is way too much complexity and man power involved in one f1 race to lay out here… From the sim drivers and race facility of engineers at the teams home bases that are driving at the same time as the race to give possible help remotely. To the team onsite that is monitoring all the different systems in the car. The engineering level is insane and requires a driver to fit into that. F1 drivers are managing two power units, a gas engine and electric motor. They are controlling how much electric energy deployment, Electric energy harvesting, fuel ratio. Then when go into brake bias settings. F1 drivers routinely are adjusting brake bias on a corner by corner basis. They can also control the differential and have different settings for corner entry, mid corner entry and exit. A Nascar driver isn't accelerating and decelerating nearly as much as an F1 driver. Oval speed difference between the straights and corners is sometimes barely a gear change or two. F1 drivers are doing upwards of 40+ gear changes a lap.
@Cynthesis21
@Cynthesis21 3 жыл бұрын
And your point? You make it sound like F1 drivers would compete in Nascar no problem. That's just not the case. Nascars are nowhere near as capable as F1 cars, and you have to be more delicate with the brake and gas on a Nascar or you will end up off the track. Your average F1 driver would not compete against the top Nascar drivers if they switched over to Nascar. It would take some time for them to adapt fully to the Nascar.
