Listened to it on Spotify while mowing (not a sneaky mow! Ha ha) and absolutely loved it! The best episode so far in my opinion. I shared the link and a few key notes, encouraging everyone I know to listen to it. So applicable for any parent today, whether they struggle with a bad phone relationship or not (we all know people that do). Thank you for this. Keep up the great work and keep the hit episodes coming! God bless.

Honestly, it all boils down to figuring out what matters and does not matter. Also, I think that overreacting is an issue.

Great episode and a good reminder to be present for our children. Atomic Habits is a great book. Just a thought. You very briefly mentioned the book 'The Anxious Generation', which people should be careful of. It's been heavily criticized by academics and journalists for relying too much on correlational studies and putting all the blame on devices and dismissing the impact of global events and the resultant media coverage. Putting all the blame for adolescent mental health on phones is dangerous because it risks not allowing other causes to be investigated.

1. She needs you to be involved - Fail: He needed me to put aside my projects to make his projects my priority. 2. She needs you to demonstrate a healthy marriage - Fail: My earliest memory is age 7 counselling my mother when she cried everytime my dad broke her heart until the day she died when I was 30yrs old. 3. She needs you to support her - Fail: as a teenager I was excercising in the living room, he made fun of me and said I could've fit a dime in my pocket I was too fat. He thought himself hilarious, and used that joke everytime he saw me doing something active. The past 2yrs, ive been persuing my degree now in my 40s, not one word of encouragement from my dad, in fact when i told him i need to take a pause with my studies this year due to overwhelm, he told me i failed, and outright called me a failure. 4. She needs to trust you as a confidant - Fail: My Dad admitted to me he tunes me out when I talk too much about my feelings. 5. She needs your unconditional love - Fail: Only in servitude to my father, do I sometimes receive a form of appreciation, like a pastry or chocolate as though I am still a child. My Dad only "loves" me when I am taking care of his needs, or making him look good to others. He gives and takes back safety and protecton, he uses it to torture me, as a bargaining chip. He gives me the silent treatment for days, weeks, months at a time. Discarding me and treating me like I'm invisibile, i dont matter, and all i have done for him, especially since my mother's death 17yrs ago he was entitled to, and meant nothing, and he can do without me. 6. She needs a strong spiritual leader - Fail: My father jokes that he is a bad Catholic. I've been going to Mass every week for months now, and he told me I'm buying too much into that crap. I invite him to join me, and he declines everytime, but will play faithful when someone dies or gets married. My Dad can cry on command for show and tell. He told me once he envies people who can blindly believe. 7. She needs a positive role model - Fail: My Dad is lazy, and thinks certain tasks and responsibilities are beneath him, so he patiently waits until I do it, even if it's months later. He has no problem demeaning or gossiping about others, and loves to control the conversation with his jokes and stories. He is a bad listener. He has modelled so many behaviours that have taught me what not to do in life. He is the opposite, a complain train negative role model to me. I'm glad I came across this channel because deep in my heart I know that there are great dads out there who love their daughters and want to see them succeed. I feel like my dad held me as a baby, and said I can't wait to make this girl suffer and serve me, at her expense so she never marries, and never has any joy, or peace in her life. I appreciate all you good dads who have taken their roles as Fathers seriously. I'm broken now, heart broken too. I am the result of what happens when a father destroys his daughter by not fulfilling any of these core needs listed in this video. So pay attention, and don't be my dad, your daughter having a healthy life depends on you. The fact that you're here watching this video speaks volumes already, good on you for that. May God bless you all, and thank you. I pray my suffering has purpose, so that it can prevent others from suffering the same fate as me.

Also, don’t be the, “No, let’s wait,” guy for e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. There was a lot of “no, wait” in my family. NOTHING got done. Now that I’m older, I tackle everything that I have the energy and/or emotional capacity for. S#!+ gets DONE! My firstborn kid son is coming. I hope to be like you. Thanks for the word of future encouragement.

My father died when I was 8 years old. I felt like a lot my life before I became a dad was met with little anxiety, but now that my wife and I have a two year old of our own I've found that my anxiety controls me. My dad passed away when he was 39 from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and ever since I turned 33 I've felt more and more worries that my heart will just give out one day. How do you combat your anxieties as a father? As a husband who doesn't want to leave their family prematurely? I can't stop myself from worrying, even though I've been doing regular check ups with my doctor.

My daughter's dream is to live in "The Apartment", a nebulous thing that includes some amount of autonomy that also includes my wife and I being there every day to make her days fun and special. She is an amazing 23 year old young lady with the best dreams. She wants to get to know the garbage man who is always "Garbage Man Mark" who she has never met or asked his name who drives "Hailey", who is every garbage truck. Kids are a beautiful gift no matter their dreams and we don't deserve them.

It's better to have NO father than to have a neglectful or abusive father. If you have no Father you can pick your own role model and hopefully you'll be wise. If you have a BAD ROLE MODEL (abusive or neglectful father) and he is still in your life it's going to be that much harder to raise your own standards and tell yourself you will do better than that. It enmeshes you in a psychological trap that takes a lot of self-discipline to get out of. Not saying it can't be done. I did it. You absolutely can too. But it is going to be a long and tough journey of Self Discovery and Self Discipline.

Thanks for the podcast. I’m focusing on keep your takeaway message front of mind. I have a question for you: how do we undo the bad habits we pass onto our children? I’ve yelled and been angry at my boys too many times that now they are emulating my behaviour and I don’t know how to help them change that behaviour (they both under 6)
