That swollen bearing is not too difficult, I have dealt with them in the past with a few fireside and standard D machines, a good rubber mallet with a wooden dowel and a cloth on the mandrel Does the job well. If the bearing isn’t in multiple pieces, and is just swollen, then a drill bit with just a smaller diameter than the bearing can be inserted and wiggled around until it fits the mandrel Dowell. This has worked for me a few times, but if the bearing is in pieces, I would recommend the Phonograph shop for a new bearing. 👍

Looks like you have few Philco radios there. Are they for sale?
@OldMechanicalMagic3 күн бұрын
They will be as I work my way through the mountain of radios. I am rounding up missing parts and putting together recap kits with diagrams for everything in this room before I go after them. Right now I have 2 other phonographs and 2 radios ahead of these. I will be posting the radio stuff on my other channel www.youtube.com/@electricalmagicsmoke

You've got a very good start on a channel. Would like to see you actually do some of the restoration work and mechanical repairs. I know it's tough to film, but it's well worth it.

@davidwilliams1383 Thanks for the suggestion. Check out the phonograph triage 2 video. I'm currently working on a bunch of them at the same time. I will try to film in more detail as I get into them.

I love the horn it shows its age, restoring it would devalue it. Cheers from Australia.

If the diaphragm inside the reproducer needs replacing, I don't know much about these but I think I read about someone who makes reproductions.

That era of radio was called a “regen” set where there were three knobs to align in order to receive stations, other knobs to adjust tube filament voltage. It can be frustrating so my advice is there’s a gentleman here on KZbin channels called glassinger who builds his own tubes and they work! Watch his channel and contact him for help. He’s the highest knowledgeable person you can contact but hurry as he’s as old as your radio! ( approach with open mind please).

I have seen alot of his videos. Very knowledgeable. The radio club I belong to is currently trying to locate me a ux120 tube. It is proving to be a challenge. I won't be going after another Radiola again unless it already has its tubes.

Where did you obtain the glass or saphire recording stylus? I've been searching for one and can not find anything that will work
@OldMechanicalMagic9 ай бұрын
There are 2 or 3 for sale on the US eBay site right now. Search for Edison recorder. Or 2 minute recorder.
@RC-wm7cw9 ай бұрын
@@OldMechanicalMagic I already have the body, I was wondering more about the stylus itself. Either I need to make one or buy one, would love to have a working recorder
@OldMechanicalMagic9 ай бұрын
@RC-wm7cw You are better of buying a working one and selling yours for parts. The cutters are no longer available. It's not worth the aggravation in my opinion. The original was a cupped glass cutter. I have know idea how someone other than an expert glass worker could make one. Then the cost would exceed that of a working one. If you do find a source please let me know and I'll share it on KZbin. 😃
