Pups can usually fit inside a kitchen sink for their introduction to bath time. That sink often has a spray hose attachment. Any pups or cats I've bathed have been less anxious about being hosed down than getting doused with buckets of water. Use a rubber mat so your pet can stand without slipping. A sink can be more comfortable for you and give you freer access to your pet. Best of all, the spray hose gives you a means to quickly apply warm water if the baby starts to shiver with cold. I find that is very common in the little ones when their all their fur is wet. When my afghans or my husky shepherd were adults, I often bathed them in my laundry room set tubs. Their legs were long enough so that their undercarriage cleared the center divider. They were agile enough to assist with getting in those tubs. I realize an adult Bernese is a different story. There is a large pet supply store in my area that is equipped with a large dog bath. They make it available to their customers for a nominal fee. There may be one near you.

I fill the tub way more for my Cavalier and always rinse very well to be sure all soap is off. We're getting a Bernese mountain puppy in eight weeks. So excited!!
