I love my small DIY (2000 watts of panels) solar system here in Jamaica where power is very expensive. I save a lot of money, and i have power when the grid goes down like during the recent hurricane that passed near the island. I would recommend every home to have at least one solar panel.

I mostly agree with you that the battery state and where you're going matters. Don't forget location and knowing what you pay for electricity at home. In California, SF Bay Area, I pay $0.44/kWh at home. Tesla Superchargers in some areas I commute to are $0.33/kWh before noon. Like shopping for gas, it pays to be educated about your own electricity and staying away from "prime time' hours.

If this video is about the Tesla "Wall" connector, why do you keep showing pictures of the "Mobile" connector?
@NickWindham2 ай бұрын
It’s probably what he uses and that would have been a more helpful video explaining to people it’s all they need, unless they have a Cybertruck and an extra long daily commute. Also, the car’s onboard inverter wastes a few % more of your electric when 48A is used instead of the mobile connector’s 32A. Furthermore, the entry level standard range Model 3 and Model Y can only charge at up to 32A on 240V AC electric. Lastly, you only need a 40A circuit and thinner 8 guage copper wire for 32A charging, making installation of a NEMA 14-50 outlet less expensive. Combined with the Mobile connector costing $200 less than the wall connector, this lowers the barrier to entry for people interested in an EV.

So, filling up a tank costs around a quarter of what it does here in Germany? Let's say you have a 90l tank and fill up with Super Plus, then only for weeks ago you would pay 2,10€/l meaning 189€.

One thing he is wrong about is the whole wait till you get to 20% state of charge and then charge it back up to $80. That is actually not good for your lithium battery and that is the recommended charging practice that Tesla recommends because it will cause battery degradation because in the microstructure of the battery itself there is what can be described as a crystalline material and that material expands and contracts based on state of charge and they've shown that only using 20% of the total state of charge of the battery versus 60% of the Total state of charge battery can reduce battery degradation down to approximately 1/4 for the overall total kilowatts used so plugging in every night and charging back up to 80% is actually better for the battery then waiting till you get down to 20% and then charging it back up to 80% state of charge because again discharging at 60% total stated charge and then recharging it 60% Total state of charge and doing that on a regular basis will cause the chemical structure in the battery to break down faster for every 100 kW of energy that you put into and take out of the battery.

if you check teslas website it actually states to keep it topped up every night ..... this is on the website ! Your Tesla vehicle is designed to maintain its battery over time, and will not overcharge when plugged in for an extended period. For that reason, when you're away from home or not using the vehicle , we always recommend leaving your vehicle plugged in.

What about time you may waste due to waiting for your EV to charge. What is my time worth
@M224.73 ай бұрын
Unless you drive over 250 miles a day you don’t wait you just hop in your car and have a full(tank) everyday.So in reality you waste more time in a gas car having to stop to get gas every few days,doing oil changes,replacing belts, engine parts,and fixing transmissions replacing brakes. Oh and I forgot coolant and fluid/filter changes. If we’re going to be honest let’s be honest about it all right.

I don't see enough people talk about depreciation of Tesla compared to other EVs or cars in general, build quality is poor on Teslas and it reduce the 2nd hand market selling price a lot. Battery replacement cost as much as a brand new car. if you buy a car for 50 and sell it for 40 down the road, compared to a tesla 50 that you're having hard times selling later for 25-30

I've had solar panels since Aug. 2017. The last grid electric bill I paid was March of 2018, and even that was under $18. My all-in cost for the panels was just under $14K. They will have paid for themselves, based on what I paid per year in 2017, in a little under 12 years. Possibly sooner if the price of grid electricity rises. The excess energy they produce gets sent to the grid and is credited to me at full retail value. My last statement (I don't call it a bill because I never pay) showed a credit of $680. As of this month, the credits start building again until November. All good in solar land.

Smart Meters are designed to be part of the Demand Side control of energy production and distribution and as such are capable of varying the PRICE of each unit of electricity on demand (of the supplier) to the full extent of 'them' being able to restrict your usage or even shut that usage off completely. Whilst the idea is correct (demand side use) the application is open to such forms of personal and privacy abuse as to be intolerable. YMMV.
