Recommend KZbin videos on NBEMS - using fldigi / flamp / flmsg to create, send, and relay formatted messages. Some ARES groups use NBEMS along with Winlink. Many community-based (non-Governmental) preparedness groups, such as AmRRON, PrepperNet, TAPRN, etc., rely on NBEMS heavily. JS8Call is great for getting short messages through under adverse conditions and supports unattended asynchronous communications with automated message relaying and inboxes. VarAC is another great tool for HF data mode comms (vmail and file transfers). There are many circumstances where narrowband data modes can get through when band conditions are not amenable to reliable voice/phone comms, and some of them provide guaranteed error-free delivery of traffic.

I have an Amateur Extra License and I am learning new things everyday about ham radio. I live in a gated community and we have a Emergency Preparedness group of 130 members comprised of retired nurses and first responders. I train people to get their Technician license using a power point program and the students need to study on their own. We have had good success. It is also necessary to reach out to Ham radio clubs in your area. Point well taken to learn more about Emergency Comms.

Try the old Army method for learning CW. Stand at attention, yell at the top of your lungs DiDah Alpha, DaDiDiDit Bravo, DaDiDaDit Charlie.... if you can still talk at the end of the second day of training you are not trying hard enough! ASA All the Way!

I really wish I could have joined. I have a few things Id liked to have added from a personal and professional perspective many wont consider. I own an emergency prep company. I missed this mornings stream, cause, well I am packing a personal bag to deploy to east coast for this hurricane response. I am a consultant to a couple of agencies there. and have already been asked if I would go out. So. if ya dont see me around here much thats why. Otherwise, Id like to add a few things that I am sure wont be covered here. Ill nit pic as I can. 73, and safe deployments and travels yall!

The spark when you connect the two batteries proves there is a potential difference, and the weaker battery has to take what the good battery delivers limited by the wires and internal connections. Put an ammeter between the two and watch it fly up initially and then settle down over time. A large wattage resister between the two will relieve the damage to either battery initially.

Learning CW is a process. IMO 1. Learn the characters at a slow speed. 5WPM or less. Get proficient at what you are comfortable with. 2. Build speed. The ARRL has W1AW sending CW at different speeds. 3. Copy the bulletins at 18WPM. I became proficient at 18WPM and passed the FCC 20WPM test. I learned code before Farnsworth was popular. My desire to become a ham was far greater than learning CW but it was required back in the 20th century. Listening to W1AW gives background noise to make a greater challenge than just listening to tapes or other generated code.

Easier to hear the sound of the letter at a higher speed. Try at 35wpm/15wpm spacing for 15-20 min. Then listen at the speed you desire to send.

Great show. Victron makes a DC to DC charger made for charging LiFePO4 battery from lead acid car/truck/RV/Boat alternator system . Can select max amps ant turn on and off voltage so you can leave hooked up and when alternator puts out like 14V the DC to DC charger turns on and give max 14.6V to LiFePo4 as boost converter with current limit that you set . Great for RV with LiFePO4 and toe with lead based alternator system. 73

Decrypting is the only part of radio that interests me. Unfortunately. Back in 6th grade when I learned CB is limited to 4 watts, I ended up with a huge box full of 2879 Transistors and had to unplug my parents washing machine to run the giant amp haha. I talked all over the world on 3500 watts PEP Now I’m 40 and craving some shady radio fun, it’s been since 1995

Great show ! Nice hamfest TO was at. Ape got nice tuner . The Baofeng antenna was the first antenna I used as a coffee stir stick . I have been experimenting with the 4:1 vertical antenna. Doing nano VNA H4 sweep . I have the red T 200-2 core. 8/16 wrap. With the 25 FT vertical I got great tune on 12 meters . under SWR 1.5 . Lots of FT8 at 10 watts . Works out 5/8 wave . I fold back end about 5 or 6 in . got SWR 1.1 at 28.074 MHZ . Just a QT 60 radio. NO TUNER ! 11 meters was great . 10/11/12 was open . got over 200 contacts 10 to 30 watts portable . most FT8 . I did get new 4:1 UNUN . 1KW T240-43 ferrite . 1 to 54 MHZ and is the 15/30 wrap. Still new in package. Just came. The 43 FT vertical on 4:1 tuned 1.8 SWR on 20 meter band. stayed under 2:1 whole band. 5/8 wave at 20. worked very well . I just cut speaker wire . Just hit the TUNE on 7300 done ! . The RX was amazing on 20 meter. Bunch of 17 ft ground radials like 16 of them. Once I get the KW 4:1 UNUN on a winder bast and on the air. I will address the state of my UNUN at QRO. I have the AL 572 AMP. has 572/B tubes and the russian ones . 1300 watts PEP . I run it at 800 PEP and like 400 FT8 . I have done 500 FT8 but not long. gets hot! Just big daddy to the AL 811H .73
