None of this corundum from these mines is gem quality. That's why it was mined for abrasive.

Just there a couple months ago, wouldn't go back, if you dig wash and sort, keep all the stuff you cleaned, take it home and look thru it some more, they encourage you to dump the cleaned rocks in front of your work station, at the end of the day they clean up all your cleaned washed rocks that you cleaned

If you wanna find some nice sapphires go to Montana or Austrailia. This place looks fun but they dont look like quality. Gotta self guide and do some research to find the good stuff!

I got my wife addicted to mining on our honeymoon trip, I kept her busy with loads of dirt and she found several "bell ringers". I cabbed her some nice stones out of them and thankfully she got hooked! Now we go mining pretty regularly, hitting several different mines in different states for our vacations. We do look forward to visiting you all again.

I think it's fun, even if you don't find anything. I would love to visit places like this.

You can see him add the stone to the bucket at 5:01 with his left hand. The likelihood of finding a 14ct sapphire in two shovels of dirt is pretty slim.

Thanks for sharing! Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum in Marion, KY houses an outstanding collection of minerals, gemstones, carvings, period journals, photographs, mining tools and other items. The collection has been visited by various authorities on minerals and is believed to be one of the finest in existence. The Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum, Inc. was formed in June 1990 to make the attraction something that would generate outside interest in the mineral and mining heritage of West Kentucky.

way more profitable charging people to dig than doing the digging, but it is fun.

I loved this video! Really put a smile on my face. I visited this mine in 1998 and spent the day searching for stones with my dad. We found a few stones that we had cut into beautiful jewelry. We didn't get a bell ringer but I would love to go back some day and do it all over again.
