Is she still planned to be be powered by gas/IC? Or are we switching to E-Power.. Would be neat to see a set of Saito FG Series engines on her. No need to worry about fuel-proofing paint.
@invertmast
@invertmast 24 күн бұрын
@@Blackstarr223 e power is unrealistic, especially something this large in my opinion, so it will be gas. . Saito also does not make any engines powerful enough for this thing. In order to use radials, it would need moki 150 sized engines.

Do you have any concerns or thoughts about additional weight being added from all the new bracing and repairs? Is there a max target weight for the final aircraft? Very interesting series, appreciate all the engineering and craftsmanship going into the old gal!
@invertmast
@invertmast 26 күн бұрын
@@scottsackett7551 weight is always a concern with large models, but if its unsafe, it doesnt matter how light it is. I will happily overbuild a few critical areas to not be concerned or its structural integrity. Ama large model program has us limited to 125lbs. Personally i feel this limit forces builders and owners of large models to sacrifice structural integrity and systems redundancy unnecessarily, but i’ll get into that topic later on. The only significant weight increases so far has been due to fiberglassing/carbon fiber everything again, which was inevitable. But it probly is more more of a gain compared to if we would of just glassed the repaired areas and body worked those into the original layers of paint. The new nose structure is only a few ounces heavier than the solid chunk of foam that was removed and with modern servo technology, we are able to use lighter and stronger servos, which ends up saving almost 2lbs in servo and wiring weight.

@@briansilcox5720 the laser cutter programming is done with a seperate program (lightburn) which imports the Dxf file of parts from the cad program.

Would you expect that mold to be durable enough for more than a few pieces to be made? That large size 3d printer is a huge advantage over plug making, etc.
@invertmast
@invertmast Ай бұрын
@@briansilcox5720 I cracked it in a few spots, but it can very easily be fixed and more parts made from it. If i would of printed it with more perimeters (it only has one) and more than 3% infill, it would be stronger, but would take more material and time to print. Its all about deciding what is best for what you want to accomplish.

Thomas, the peel ply has the spiral black stripes? This used to give a smooth surface inside? Thx.
@invertmast
@invertmast Ай бұрын
@@briansilcox5720 correct, this particular peel ply has a blue tracer, which is because it is in a “twill” weave. Other plain weave peel plies have a red tracer. The stuff i used to fiberglass the B29 with no tracers was a 100% polyester fabric (which is what peel ply essentially is). The peel ply soaks up excess resin, gives s surface that is ready for bonding and also helps even out the surface where the fabric layers overlap.

@@Jean-sc1bw considering its a necessity in sealing the exposed balsa and as a way of returning some strength that was lost, the weight gain is not really a concern. We can eliminate weight in other ways to counter the gain.
