Thanks for these great videos. The biggest problem I've had is to get the sheet scanned and then print so the printed sheet is identical to the original in terms of dimensions. Scanning works fine. The scanned picture is exactly the right size. But when I print it on my laser printer the printer seems to insist of shrinking the image slightly and adding a margin all around so when you fold it the fold come in the wrong place. I've tried several application to do the print and I've scoured the printer settings but can't find anything

I can imagine Q Hayashida waking up in the middle of the night and thinking: "I need to draw hot, muscular witches, with really big boobs... and a lizard... No! A humanoid lizard..." while she was drawing the pen was on fire (literally), and during the break to rest she heated up gyosa in the microwave.

Silence is something that I am also after, I used to be plugged in to noise from youtube and audibooks for about three years. During that time I was into the hustle and grid culture, but ended up crashing and burning because the gurus never tell you when to silence everything and rest the hours you need. Any chance I get, I welcome silence before the family turns on the TV after they are awake. I noticed that silent movies and videos grab our attention more, there is something powerful about it. Probably I will find out soon. You are right about being in silence and then having corrections, guidance, etc. I get those moments myself also. Is the music in the video your own? Did you make it?
@MarshMakesComics28 күн бұрын
Sounds like you and I are on the same page with this. Yeah I definitely bought into the hustle culture thing as well. I do think there is an important lesson in the hustle mentality but it needs to be balanced with healthy measures of rest and an understanding that sometimes gradual progress is better. Yes I made the music thank you for noticing! 😎

24:32 vellum paper, you can print on (tracing paper is good for this also if you don’t need to print ) - I also suggest trying to paste it with matte medium or an acrylic gel medium works better for some things (it’s thicker material) - those are clear acrylic paints many illustrators use for this kind of collage. A lot of times you can draw with colored pencils over matte medium also which is fun. Thanks for showing the book- looks cool

Q Hayashida is a woman. I know you said you weren't sure of the gender but I'm surprised how much it pained me to keep hearing you say he/him lol

it was a huge surprise to me too. the art just struck me as very masculine
@MarshMakesComicsАй бұрын
Yeah I agree!
@I4r5Ай бұрын
there is no ''masculine'' art style, to be honest. It doesn't depend on gender and many women artists use male pseudonyms just to avoid being labelled
@monstergonads11Ай бұрын
@@I4r5 yes while male or female does not always determine how the art style will look or what it contains, it is rather unusual to see such gritty depictions from a female artist, I was surprised when I found out it was a female artist myself.

And though I've read books and watched videos, I still kinda feel like I don't exactly know what I'm doing. I think making some mini comics might help me learn stuff and relieve some of the pressure. Thanks again.☮

ive read Sandman #1 so many times , the first time i read it i was like yea this is what comix could be! his style gets a bit sharper after that , kinda more modern but i still love the Will Eisner look to comix . i hope in retrospect he is proud of that opening scene it opened the way for more story telling

I fell in love with his works the first time I ever bought an issue of THE MAXX issue 33 ….. yeah I knows a little late into the run . I only got into it because of the most excellent cartoon the reason i dismissed it to begin with was I was buying sooooooo many superhero comics I just didn’t have room for another tittle and boy was I wrong he’s not ur typical superhero 🤭
@DinosaurKing2 ай бұрын
Could you elaborate on how you inked the plate to transer the initial image? This is tech I haven't encountered yet.
@MarshMakesComics2 ай бұрын
I believe I did a typical image transfer same as how people do this with magazine pages. Trick is you have to use a high contrast image. So black and white works great. And it has to be a laser printer set on the color setting even if you’re printing black and white.

Very unique style. I collected every issue of The Maxx, only to lose the whole thing along with most of my library to the New Orleans Flood of 2005. I was really into Sam Kieth. I've got a Batman two-issue story of his somewhere, still packed away in boxes, which is the only sampling of his work I've got now.
@MarshMakesComics2 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear you lost that collection. I’ve regrettably gotten rid of lots of books at different times in life. Luckily most of my Sam Kieth stuff is intact. Fortunately if you do ever build your collection up most of his stuff can be found pretty cheap.

Love Sam Keith! And you are right, getting better at comic drawing means you have to go outside the comics sphere of illustration. Learning the principles of design, composition, technique, storytelling and everything else existed long before comics. Or perhaps you could say comics have been around forever in different forms. And if you want to have an original style you can't copy everyone else. If you learn the academic principles you will end up with your own style.
@MarshMakesComics2 ай бұрын
Makes a lot of sense. I don’t hear that approach often. 😎👍
@artbyty2 ай бұрын
@ Right on. And to be specific, one of the things Keith draws really well is plants and foliage. The figure can only look as good as its surroundings. Just getting good at plants and urban environments can massively improve the quality of anyone’s work.
