I grew up watching these games in West Texas. Football just doesn’t seem the same these days.

Comer was a big powerful fullback and Billingsley was a small fast half back. It was the opposite in the movie. Comer was the small fast halfback and Billingsley was the big powerful fullback in the movie.

I thought the book said mikes last pass was not even close? It was the receivers fault! It was right in his hands

I was a 8 year old kid at this game with my dad and a friend from school. we were midland lee fans and I remember Lee blocking the kick and I went wild screaming with joy. I also remember seeing the Longhorn band at the game and also the MOJO vs REBELS chant that went back and forth late in the game. what a special rivalry and game this is. I'm proud that I got to see this famous game first hand. Go Rebs!

In real life Miles was injured in the pre-season many things were changed in the movie for cinematic purposes

That was just a movie dramatization.

The movie wasn’t completely accurate. The book tells the truth. The movie actually made Dallas Carter out to be more like thugs when actually that community was more like a middle class respectful community.

I didn't know that most of the offensive starters, including Winchell and Billingsley, played defense as well.

They have defensive positions listed but they necessarily didn't play them. On all the rosters every player had an offensive and defensive position listed. Lloyd Hill and Robert Brown were the only ones to start/play both ways (WR/S). Though he didn't in this game, Chavez could play DE (either DE or LB). Ivory Christian as a junior in '87 was a starter at offensive guard and not linebacker.

I'd be willing to guess that they had defensive positions but probably never practiced at those positions as they were a two platoon.team.(I read Friday Night Lights and got it an xmas gift in 1990)
@martindunham46968 жыл бұрын
John Paulson They probably did practice them just never play. In clinic notes I've read on their practices, they spent an hour on offense and an hour on defense. With the exception of the QB I'm sure everyone repped spots. Their system was pretty simple but two platoon is always better than two-way play unless you have some stud like Lloyd Hill or even Robert Brown. On D they wanted the fastest players (everyone under 5.0 40).

Unless you were like my high school up in Minnesota. We HAD to go with players going both ways as we (at the highest number when I was in high schools)39 players out for football in grades 9-12. Total enrollment 9-12 was at about 160 that year.

Reminds me a bit of one of Minnesota's powerhouses in Cretin-Derham Hall. Every offensive player had a defensive position listed(and this included Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins as that is where he went to high school) He was an all american quarterback but was also listed as a defensive back when he was in high school

what is the song the band is playing at the beginning
@thegreatalyssa8 жыл бұрын
March Grandioso. Universities like Texas and Texas Tech play it so many Texas high schools play it such as the Plano Wildcats. At Plano one spells out P-L-A-N-O then says "Plano" to the music. There are videos with Plano playing the song.

Did either of the Super 7 Announcers from the 1988 Game (Kurt Kiser and Don Scott) cameo in the Friday Night Lights Movie Coin Flip Cameo themselves?
