also known as PVR. It is a serious complication of retina surgery or any eye surgery. membranes eventually contract causing redetachments & holes to the retina. Membranes can be on the top, underneath and even inside the retina tissue. presents 4 to 6 weeks after retina surgery...Currently PVR is considered an "unmet medical need" by the medical community. Dozens of compounds have been thrown at it some suspicioulsy successful but like so many "cures" somehow are derailed at the last moment by pharma overlords or study leaders....and currently experimental trials of Methotxrate given as a series of 13 injections over 16 weeks show promise in this serious complication. There is also no suitable vitreous substitute meaning when your vitreous ages it thins to water from a gel and causes the eye to become unstable. Known as PVD. I would have thought in the last 45 years they would have had a lot of these issues solved. Instead all they do is try to find the next viagra.

I was in los angeles and than I go to business trip to atlanta I was at tradeshow I started to see black holes like a curtain closing slowly floating , In atlanta directly I go to another doctor he said u need emergency operation , but he said u can not go back to los angeles because flight is not allowed for 2 weeks after operation than I decided to flight rightaway to LA from airport to emergency room right away . 2 days ago they made operation with laser , + gas bubble , Im so scary I will edit for updates. Today 3rd day Im only looking facedown , Eyes not giving me pain but my neck and waist giving me too much pain to stay like this . I order massage chair and table from amazon that will help if question need Im here to help ..

The facedown support cushions you can hire or buy do relieve the strain on your feet, spine and neck...but i did find the head cushion (which is in the style of a massage table) is always going to be awkward and stop you sleeping properly. The posturing can be more stressful than the operation, unfortunately. I managed to tolerate it for a week. I am 5wks in and the last of the C2F6 bubble will be gone in 2 or 3 days, then i can lie on my back again, not just my sides. Vision is akin to looking through petroleum jelly at the moment. We'll see..(hopefully)

My mom had a cataract surgery she got pseudomonas bacteria. Then it took two days for the doctors to find that it's psudomonous. Later she had a corneal transplant. After that the doctors started retinal detachment process. It's been three months. She didn't have any progress. Except light perception. Will she recover?

Operations are available but not to people over 75 in Australia. Unless of course you have Private health cover which many of us don’t which means we have to walk around like this for the rest of our days. Imagine having blurred vision plus seeing things much bigger than the good eye. It’s a nightmare. Thankyou Australian Medicare, you should remove the last four letters. Unfortunately I was operated with a scleral buckle. my vision before surgery was 10/10, after surgery I am short-sighted from the operated eye. the vision now is 1/10 and corrected with glasses to 10/10. several discomforts have appeared after surgery, in addition to the short-sight vision, diplopia, red eye, thining of the sclera, lot of phosphenes (which I didn't have before surgery).

I had lasik in 2018 for distance. Im 61 now. Then in 23 had to have cataract surgery and ended up NEARsighted in one 1, and distance in the other. That didnt work. Then the cataract eye needed a DMEK and now that eye is Farsighted, so if you are over 45 and havent had cataract surgery yet, dont do lasik. They never tell you any of these possible outcomes.

My 1st eye was done and I experienced a great improvement on days 1,2 and 3 but I could not read, and could not use my reading glasses unless I covered my operation eye (since the "correction" in that eye was no longer necessary due to the new lens. But then my vision got blurry. There's been some improvement up to about 10 feet but further than that gets blurrier the further away I look. 2nd eye I had almost immediate Wonderful closeup vision - I've worn reading glasses for decades and since that eye was operated on I can read books, medicine bottles (even very small print) and my computer etc. This eye still has blurry vision for mid-distant things. I've been reading a lot about neuro-adaptation. My glasses are multifocal, meaning there are concentric circles on them which bring different distances into focus. Reading eye charts my 1st eye has 20/25 vision (Very good). My second eye has 20/20 vision. BUT I would Certainly not believe it from what I "see"!! Both eyes are Very Very slowly improving - I should say .... my brain is improving in its ability to process what the eyes are providing it with!! It is Extremely frustrating and my mid-long distance vision is worse than before I had the surgeries. :-( Yesterday my ophthalmolosit said "this is as good as it gets". (His bedside manner leaves a LOT to be desired!!!) I do Not believe him. I've read it can take 3 to 6 months (or more) for neuro-adaptation to complete. I am going to purchse a program using the Gabor patch concept. It's called RevitalVision. It's scientifically reviewed and the videos on their site (from cataract patients and even a specialist) give me a Huge amount of hope. My experience is definitely different from what's been described in this video. Especially with multifocal lenses, the neuro-adaptation period can be fairly long - so people should not be given false hope that can alarm them if their experience is different. Also, it's good to do our own research. If I'd believed my ophthalmologist's gloom & doom announcement, I'd be forking out a couple hundered dollars for glasses, and not giving my brain the time to adjust to the 20/20 and 20/15 vision my eyes actually now have. (Although some of the letters are blurry, I can read all the lines on the chart.)

I had sudden onset of new floaters last week along with peripheral flashes when turning my head. I went to the Ophthalmologist and they dilated me and looked me over for 2 to 3 hours with two different docs. They confirmed a PVD but could find no retinal tears at all. However they did say I was Shafer's sign positive which is pigmentation leaking out. This was why they spent so much more time looking me over. I have to go back in a month to check again for any tear. From what I read online a positive Shafer's sign means you do have a retinal tear. Does the fact I did not have a tear but am positive for Shafer's sign necessarily mean I will have a tear in the near future? It's only been about 5 days and my floaters have diminished greatly and the flashes are mostly gone now. Can the PVD heal and the Shafer's sign go away?

What happened
@traceystock73522 ай бұрын
@@fzr1000981 I'm on watch and wait status after being seen three times. I apparently had PVD which is considered part of the normal aging process. However they discovered my optic nerve had cupping which often indicates glaucoma so had some tests for that and had an elevated pressure on one visit but normal on the others. Took and passed a visual field test. So I go back every 6 months so they can check my pressures and look at my optic nerve and I have to go to the ER or ophthalmology whenever I see another rise in floaters as it may be a retina tear or detachment. .

My doctor is willing to do both at once if I want it. For e the issues are what are discusses here - very bad cataracts in both eyes, very unbalanced prescription if I just do one and a need to be able to drive as soon as possible. So I probably will if I can work out the logistics of care for the first couple days after.

@JoeR203 Жыл бұрын
@@akshayprajapati6633 No. The gas took 11 months to clear up. Then I noticed I had color deficiency and distorted vision because they put the buckle on too tight and it creased the retina. They didn't want to go back in and loosen it for fear of more bleeding. I bled during the surgery due to weakened blood vessels from 9 cataract surgeries I had when I was a kid. (before laser). Also, in those 11 months I was using my legally blind right eye to see. It was a lazy eye and since I was using it more, it started to center itself. But the gas cleared up and I was back to using the dominant left eye and the right eye never fully centered so I have double vision.

My surgery was supposed to be just the removal of scar tissue on the right eye, but unfortunately the doctor had to place a gas bubble in the eye due to the beating the retina took from removing the scar tissue. There were no tears but he felt the retina needed additional support. Fortunately I do not have to go through the face down protocol but I do have to sleep on my side. I also attempt to stay face down as much as possible while doing regular activities. I change jobs in three weeks so I hope they eye has mostly cleared up by then.
