Quite impressive, I love the sound... V8 or V12...? How fast is it...? I own a smaller vintage hydroplane built in Sweden (both boat and engine). This type of hydroplane where raced in europe in the post WWII era, particulary the 50 and 60's. It has a three cyl 2-stroke 500cc Crescent outboard 60bhp. On a good day with fine weather she can achieve 80-90 km/h at best.

I had a SK 40 back in the day, I used a straight shaft, rudder was mounted on the transom, turn fin was fairly large mounted directly under the engine, this boat was fun but was too heavy, engine was a Irvine 40. I would to build a lighter one if I can find a set of plans.

*This is just a note to let you all know as the previous plans I already have in my mind while building my boat would have been a failure to me until they came and rescued me [Check Details Here==>**t.co/pO4DuSsgwT** ] . And it ended up the best dollar investment. Thank you!*

Man, I love that and it looks like she does too. Those old motors are some of the best. I Have a '58 Johnson 35 that replaced a '64 Evinrude 28 on my 14' runabout. Both are pretty reliable and both have character with the period correct covers.

I know this is from almost 7yrs ago, but can you tell me if these boats are using the standard Dumas hardware for these kits? Or any information on the hardware used and setup would be appreciated?
@jonmyers21364 жыл бұрын
No, we were not using the Dumas hardware. The brass u-joint won't last very long so we used a hardened steel unit that I made for everyone in the club. There might be someone out there offering steel u-joints? Props are the most difficult thing to find. Most hydro props have too much blade area for the flatbottoms so we would grind and modify grimracer props. Good luck. We had a blast doing this for about 10 years, then glow engines became scarce so we faded away instead of converting to electric.

Just use a modern aluminum rudder and strut drive, avoid brass, times have changed..

@govermentufo you can go to the glen-l website. They sell the plans there and they have a whole community that is friendly and supportive. I recommend taking the time to explore the site and see what other people have done. I recommend the glen-l and their site for anyone interested in learning more about building boats yourself and I find what people have built to be artful.

Actually it is a '55. The engine was seahorse green when I bought it, but I thought the Holiday Bronze and Cream looked better so I repainted it. 1955 was the last year for Seahorse Green.

I used 1/4" Marranti Mahogany marine plywood ( called Hydro-Teck) for the deck, sides and bottom. The transom is marine grade 3/4" douglas fir plywood and the frames are 3/4" mahogany. It took 3 sheets of 1/4" plywood and half a sheet of 3/4" fir.

Yes, it will easily plane out with both me and my 8 year old daughter on board. We have a combined weight of 225 lbs. My daughter loves her boat and is very protective of it. She is very careful when docking and tieing up so as not to scratch it.

A flatbottom with a V-drive makes for a great ski boat. The wake is actually flatter than that of a Malibu or Ski Nautique, it's perfect for the beginning skier or the competition slalom skier. The Howard is a well built boat.
