Goes too show you don't need copious amounts of horsepower to have fun! Good sounding exhaust.

Justin Teno , Hey, man, thanks for the compliment! It's done, and I drove it for a week before it started knocking. I'd love to get some tech advice if you'd oblige....

Bruce Fleming Is it a really deep knock or a light almost lifter tick sounding knock?
@justinteno18347 жыл бұрын
If you could get a video of it that would be good but also look and see if the rubber dampened on the harmonic balancer is cracked and brittle. If you grab the actual metal pulley on the balancer there should be no movement besides that of the entire rotating assembly (the pulley shouldn't rotate separately from the base). It might take both hands or a band wrench to try to spin it but that is usually the problem, if the balancer has just separated it will sound like the start of rod knock as there is still friction holding the 2 together but after a while it sounds like an empty six pack clanking around.

Justin Teno So, here's the scoop: the engine had a half inch of sludge in the oil pan. I cleaned that out as well as a bunch of caked shit in the cam valley. I never pulled the valve covers. I got it running, drove it a week, put the computer on it to correct the Speedo, and went for a full throttle blast. It shifted into 3rd at 100mph, and I ran out of room. It shut off, and I had to keep restarting it. Oil pressure is still 60 psi at 1500rpm, 30 at idle. It knocks off load, but quiets down under pressure. Is it a rod bearing, a cracked flexplate, or if you have any other ideas. Here's where I'm at: gbodyforum.com/threads/operation-lipstick-on-a-pig.64137/ It was cool, but I am seriously doubtful that I can make it what I want. Talk to me, bro! What should I do?

If there's no sparkling oil I'd agree you likely don't have a bottom end issue, I've also heard horror stories on the harmonic balancers on these.... If it makes you feel better, just went through the same thing in my 3800 swapped elky! Had it running for about a year and knock-a-knocka, number one rod bearing/journal was wasted. Never lost oil pressure, but it looks like something disintegrated inside the timing cover and may have snuck past the sump. Currently rethinking my plan to get my L67 stuffed in there, since I'm rebuilding an engine either way...
