Keep doing what you do for and with your son. God has chosen you and your husband to help others navigate this rigorous task of parenting their children who are on the autistic spectrum.

Good husband doing research! Love it. I like this topic speaking on implications for the labour market outcomes of parents with children with special needs and autism in particular. One issue I suspect is that the data is either not collected properly, spotty, or protected. But I would love for certain data to be widely available.
@AutisticEdge19 күн бұрын
Thank you. The challenges and implications are real. That data was old, no updated one. But we found it very interesting

Agreed Mr. Lowenfield @ resources for parents. A struggle is finding a curriculum that is aligned with ASD. What type of activities to do? What are the techniques etc. I have taken a look and found more research-type papers. Maybe it's me but would love to find the right documented resources.
@AutisticEdge23 күн бұрын
Because ASD affects each person differently, what is needed is an effective IEP for each child. And one that is realistic to work with
@alvinharris425425 күн бұрын
A huge and important one! Thanks for shedding light on this topic. I hope to see some improvement in Jamaica. I learnt recently that while some (very few) schools may take a mix of different abilities students, the cost for students with special needs is more expensive (at the same school)
@AutisticEdge23 күн бұрын
You are welcome! The cost is exorbitant when you compare to what you are getting for your money. Ludicrous!

Having a Home and School book really helps. We write how his night was. When he wakes up the mood that he was in and if he had his breakfast. And his teacher does the same and send home his book so we can know how his day was.
@AutisticEdgeАй бұрын
This is a great way for identifying the triggers. I wish we could get our educators to even appreciate this very important tip.

Happy Sunday, Autistic Edge. I am so happy and also proud to hear a Jamaican couple put their life out there about having a child on the spectrum. I have a 12 years old nonverbal grandson . He has high sensitivity, to the sun and noise ( although he make loud noise sometimes)

I am not autistic and I am afraid of dogs too 🙈 Behavioural issues: - sensory overload - emotional distress - routine changes Meltdowns: sensory overload, emotional expression and regulation... Tantrums: attention, oppositionality Strategies: - remain regulated and use co-regulation strategies that the child can learn to model - carefully manage transition - gentle persistence when introducing new things - quiet, calming, relaxing, preferred songs/music - parents or teachers: take turns during extended periods of dysregulation - do NOT spank or beat - trial and error: brainstorm possible causes of behaviour. Query: physical hurt or meed, sensory discomfort. Reflect on previous experiences, environmental variables - positively reinforce chil's progress as they come out of the period of dysregulation - some children may respond to communication when dysregates, some may not. - build a quiet space for your child (sensory zone). Be careful to ensure the necessary safety features are in place for your child - get professional help: BCBAs, Psychologists, SLPs, Paediatrician, SpEd

Loved to hear of the series yesterday on West Jamaica. May God continue to strengthen the work of your hands and comfort you in the hard moments, reminding you that he's put you in place in this ministry for such a time as this. A dedicated, united part of his remnant is perfect for this ministry that souls should be reached while meeting such a great need. Truly He does things wonderfully. I've shared this with a couple of other Jamaican mothers who have autistic children and I believe it will be a blessing to them and to others. Hope to be able to show this resource in the future.
