I also shoot JPEG only on one of my cameras and most of the time it is black and white. I prefer also JPG with my other cameras. I also think it ”like a film” in that sense - it is what it is, I cannot change it later. I want to take better photos with camera, not by editing those on computer (at least on my free time fun shoots). Editing just not feel ”right” for me, I even print those JPG without cropping (except what comes from printer when aspect ratio of a photo and a paper is different), that way I can easily see if ny composition is bad, if there is annoyances in frame etc. and then I will take a look those elements better next time on shooting so I hopefully don’t repeat same mistakes always.

I have paired 7artisans 25mm for my epl2 what do u think
@StreetPhotographyChannelАй бұрын
That lens is supercheap. Great color rendering, close to film. In M43 becomes a 50mm. I did have that lens when I did have Fujifilm cameras. It is a lens very focused on bokeh, too much for my taste. The room for sharpness management is really narrow: when you nail it is OK, but the point is that is very easy to move the ring accidentally and is not even that accurate. I think after that lens 7Artisans produced better lenses. But hey, don't get me wrong you made in any case a good purchase.

If you prioritize speed and accuracy in autofocus, the Canon EOS M6 Mark II would be the top choice, followed by the Canon EOS M200. The Ricoh GR III is slower but great for a more deliberate, zone-focusing style of shooting.

I did a workshop with Bruce... in real life he's more nuanced and much kinder than his prepared marketing talks. He will always be a New Yorker though, and that will remain divisive for many. I did learn from him the difference between real characters and people that put up a costume in the morning. I got the feeling though that he created this persona of himself that allows him to make the kind of photos that he does. I really like his Japan book and the Fashion magazine series (interesting to see his commercial style work). I ended up making a series of portraits in a mall over a week (I found the streets in that location really lifeless, Bruce himself said he had a hard time there), mostly from regular working class people. I ended up with a couple of photos that we both really liked and showed some fragility and honesty without taking the piss out of the subject (I got many requests from subjects to email them the photo after showing it to them). I agree that his later color work is a bit too extreme though. He will always remain a divisive character, but I learned a lot from him that week and I think it's good that there's a guy like him exploring (and perhaps going over) the edges of decency. We're all a bit too sanitised these days.

@@StreetPhotographyChannel I did a workshop with Ernesto Bazan a year later and the contrast could not be bigger in style and approach. He would be a good subject for your photographer series. He did great work in Cuba and various locations across the world, notably Sicily and Oaxaca (Mexico).

@@Renzsu Ernesto Bazan is a great photographer and I agree that could be a nice add to my series. His character is a little difficult...in the past I worked in a magazine as photo editor and there was a misunderstanding with him, because we could not give him printed editions and he got pissed off with us. From him I received in the past one of the best recommendations I could receive for my photography.

@@StreetPhotographyChannel Ah, that’s interesting. I think that’s kind of a thing that you can make assumptions about a person by seeing their work, but real life tends to be different.. but I think to be successful in that line of work you have to be a bit of a jerk. Look at Steve McCurry for example. I have heard stories about how he works and I wouldn’t agree with that, but hey, my work doesn’t typically end up in global publications ;)

I think to be fair to Bruce we should separate his B&W work in Japan published in a book I think was called Cherry Blossom which was excellent from his colour flash photography which he has been doing for a number of years now . The colour flash pictures of people with mental health problems of all kinds I do find repulsive. For pity sake leave those people alone. They have enough problems. Just my 2 cents worth . Hi Alex, If you like a long tonal range from blacks to whites with good mid tones then raw does give you at least 1 stop of dynamic range flexibility. You do have to know how to expose ,set your blinkers to 255 knowing this is giving you blowout for jpeg range and you can push one stop more and stay ok for raw. Yes there is a small amount of processing but it allows you to have open blacks and detailed hilights mid tones aren’t as compressed as jpeg . Many people nowadays like hi contrast then this does not apply but if you want delicate range of tones in a challenging contrast scene raw is better, that’s just a fact.the raw and the jpeg open up side by side in your software so there’s no recalibrating from color needed, JPEG is easier yes, but not better even at the level of concept / process, in my opinion.
@StreetPhotographyChannel3 ай бұрын
@@michaellong9526 yes, thanks for writing this here. I know it but I still can accept the compromise. There are other reasons why I stopped to use RAW, one of the main important is storage space that seems always be less despite I pay cloud and drivers.
