A very experienced on-road rider (Ninja H2 SX) I fancied doing some adventure tours on my own bike so started looking to compliment the one I have with another (lucky me). I fancied a Ducati so what better way to test ride those on my short list (Desert X Rally and MS V4 Rally) than do some off-road training (L1) at the Ducati Riding Experience at Sweet Lamb in the UK, where they use both bikes. Day one Desert X Rally and day two the V4 Rally. The whole experience was amazing but of note was the V4 Rally. I took to it like a duck to water and completely agree with this review, not withstanding my limited skill set. So if you can get past taking your own very expensive, very powerful, very shiny, heavy bike off road, and there are lots of views on that, then the V4 Rally is a very very good choice. For me my bikes are an emotional decision being about how they make me feel so being rational and sensible doesn't count. I have yet to test the V4 Rally on road (that is next) just to be sure but I am confident next year I'll have a choice to make - take the red one or the green one? And a big shout out the DRE at Sweet Lamb, it was brilliant.

Not really comparable Oz. The Tuareg is the benchmark small-mid size Adventure bike with all the bells and whistles. Price reflects that. Twice the power. Astonishing handling out of the box, adjustable TC on the fly etc etc. The MT is a no frills entry level 40 hp bike. Awesome value for money.

Hmm.. Though I appreciate the updated design - the tank is real this time and the battery is traditionally placed under the seat), I think the weight distribution might not be as good as it was prior to the re-design, where the tank sat under the seat and the battery was placed down at the front, just below the radiator - thus lowering the center of gravity of this beast. But the thing I really do not understand is why they narrowed the front wheel to be a 130/80 one (previously 150/80) and switched the back one for a 200/60 (previously 180/70).. Did they try to make it more chopper-esque or what? Frankly, from riding perspective, I can't figure out a good reason for this change. But despite all that.. Having tried one briefly last year, I think it's really a great motorcycle and definitely a very fine addition to the cruiser fleet.

Hey Bruce - I've just had some challenges lining up timing. I was also off the bikes again for a month or two after hitting a Kangaroo and going down! Hopefully soon. And I'm doing one of the 1200 Rally Pro also...

test rode this 4 Sept 2024 front brake very weak, no feel from the lever, and it was nearly touching the handle bar !!! rear brake very difficult to apply pressure, downwards with floorboards fitted. the speedometer was built into the headlight, nice feature but its too flat, and difficult to see (its not pointed at the rider, its pointed at the sky) at 80 to 90 speed, the wind was very turbulent, and plenty of wind noise (same the crash helmet on the HD Sport Glide and similar speed, very quite and clean air, not turbulent) suspension was very hard at the rear, and not forgiving at all. NOT recommended by me!!

Awesome Wayne, looking forward to the full review. Keep thinking about other bikes but love my R1200GS (LC) every time I ride it. I feel like we are overdue for a Tuareg vid!

Aprilia probably has a plan for a high fender, I bought the 2024 model and the bottom of the triple already has 4 screw halls in it, just need the screws and fender is on. So for the 2024 job much more simple, just screw the fender on, no need for bracket.

Enjoyed the video. However I think you’ve underplayed your obvious talent riding motorcycles especially off road and overestimated probably 90% of the people who actuallly buy this bike. If I tried to ride that track like you I’d be in hospital and the bike would be knackered. Honda has to pitch the bike at an average ability and if some donut left the traction off and another rider jumped on not knowing and gave it a hand full they may end up in the hedge!

Tiger 900 Rally Pro is the closest to the Enduro. The Tiger is noticeably more comfortable, has more range and is more of an alrounder, better on road too. I reckon they'd be lineball in terms of offroad capability. The Enduro might just pip it.

It’s a shame to say but over the last 14yrs I’ve ridden about 130,000km commuting and never left Sydney. When you watch content like this you realise how much you’re blowing it. I’ve thought about this bike( I’ve got an XSR900 )the idea that I could break the confines of the city even if it doesn’t happen knowing you could on a bike like this would be enough.

No the vibes were fine. Either bike would be awesome. Just depends on personal tastes there. That triple engine is a peach though... :)

Well, I watch these vids just to remind myself that I own this nice beauty. Not the rally though. For those saying it's expensive to drop, not really, maybe the rally is for it's aluminum tank. But the main reason I bought it over a GS was the whole set of front plastics, literally the whole outer shell of the bike if you drop it is 200€ to replace. At least on the original V4S. Also, would've loved you to compare how it feels like to other bikes. Throw in some facts or something. But great vid! Jealous of your countryside.

My 2022 1250GS Rally is a wonderful bike. Nearly 2 years old but only 10K on the clock. It's just a terrific all round bike in street and dirt.

Off road mode limits power back to 114 horsepower. It didn't feel like too much power in the loose stuff at all.

At the start of the video you can see the Red Lion. My grandparents home is to the right behind it. Thankfully the Red Lion has a new owner it’s a better pub now. This town also hosts two great Indian restaurants. A quaint small lovely village.
